Default What 'simple' disc golf concepts have taken you the longest to apply?

Putting with authority is still my biggest issue.

It's so easy to be scared of missing a putt and risking a three-putt that I often end up hitting the basket on easy, 15-20 foot putts. This is a HUGE problem when there is a water hazard or cliff behind the basket.

I've gotten a lot better but still need to mentally assure myself that I'm much more likely to sink the putt if I put the hazard out of my mind.

Playing conservatively is an issue that I feel that I've really approved on. I used to walk up to technical courses and try my best to park it, just like I would on an open hole. I finally wised up and learned how much better off you are landing in the fairway even if you are 50ft shorter than what you could conceivably reach.

What issues do you battle?

This isn't really a concept, but I would say for my learning it would be taking the time to do regular open field practice sessions to work on technique and experiment/learn disc flights. I've done it maybe 5 times in the past few years, whereas it should have been 25 or more. I also share your two issues...both of those habits are hard to break.

It's a frisbee

ok .. it's not really, but the point is that I have told myself so long that these aren't frisbee's, that sometimes I forget to just treat it like one, and throw it at the basket. I'll get myself all jammed up over a 50'-75' shot because I'm thinking about form, technique, blah blah blah, but I hit more chains from that range when I just chuck it like I'm throwing a frisbee to a friend. It's taken me forever to figure that out.

@ drickanderson, I like that very much and agree wholeheartedly!

For me, I would say it's throwing REALLY far, lol. I'm never gonna be a 400' or probably even 300' thrower, but I'm cool with it. That's why I've developed a pretty good roller. More than 1 way to skin the proverbial cat (I hope my cat doesn't read this)..

Yup. Almost every putt I've made > 40' happened when I just played catch with the basket.

I hate the whole "not everything is a 3" argument. SSA and total strokes are the only things that matter.

Putting through the chains, rather than to the chains.

Playing tighter lines. I have a bad habit of looking for the monster hyzer line rather than just punching one up the fairway. I like to go for the shock and awe shot way too often.
