Eat well, hydrate, stay calm, have fun, take your time, be cordial, take a protein/energy bar in your bag, and read up on PDGA rules before you head out.

^^ this. And don't let a bad throw ruin your game. My first tournament I missed a 10 ft putt and it kept with me for the next several holes. You need a really short memory.
**Also remmember that par almost always wins rec. just lay up if you don't have a realistic chance.

Tell the folks you're grouped with that it's your first tournament. Almost without fail, they'll be helpful and understanding.

Try to remember its just a couple rounds of golf, don't make it into some huge deal.

Yup.^^^^ Just go out there and have fun. The pre game dump is also crucial.

Make sure you stretch/warm up before you start(nothing like not getting loose until the 7th hole). As other people have said, relax and have a short memory so one bad shot doesn't carry over into your next shot. I would recommend eating a light lunch in between rounds also.

if you can come up with a gameplan and stick to it you should do fine.
