Default Brodie Smith PDGA #128378

Hard to tell if he's in it for the short or long term. But it appears he is taking the game somewhat serious as he documents the journey to his first PDGA tournament.

Any predictions on how well he will do? His Ultimate background should suit the short game (mid ranges, putters) well, but I think his biggest hurdle will be getting 400+ distance with drivers.

Imagine being on his card at a tournament and he is just as loud as he was with Simon and Paul. Would be so much fun.

Being sarcastic gentlemen. I couldn't watch more than a couple minutes of that video.

BUT he might bring his camera crew and you'd get half a million views of you playing in that group

If he really committed to it, he could be pretty good. Is he committed to being pretty good or is this just for YouTube views? There is a local here in Madison who recently transitioned away from being a world-class ultimate player to competitive disc golf. Until about five years ago, he just played casually with a putter and mid-range. He is now over a 1000 rated. I believe he was the runner-up for the 2019 PDGA rookie of the year.

Andrew Fish is a former high level ultimate player and now likely one of the best players in the world that has a full time job. He won 2 A tiers this year and won 10000+ all while having a full time job. Do I think Brodie will ever reach that level? Probably not, but I guess it’s not inconceivable

Ultimately, growth means more courses. Bring on his 2.something million subscribers, and before I'm too old every small town in America is going to have at least a 9-holer like they do basketball and tennis courts and softball fields and super expensive playground equipment. 18 baskets and cement tees is about the cost of one tennis court but can service up to 72 for recreation all at once. (Yes, I've given the pitch to parks departments!)

The old days sucked in comparison. The camaraderie and Happy Hippie Frisbee Family aspect was indeed great, and I want that to continue, but having to take a day trip just for the chance to play a different course that would have, at best, Mach III baskets with a Gazelle or Cyclone being the best driver seems like a distant memory now. It was cool to have been there during that toddler stage of the sport, but I'm glad I don't have to explain what it is every time it comes up in conversation anymore, and there are like a dozen courses near me when there used to be one.

I'm all in on the Brodie thing, and I like his enthusiasm. Bring on the growth!
