Default THE DEFINITIVE PORTABLE BASKET THREAD

A frequently asked question is what basket is best for me. There are a lot of choices, so the best really depends on what you want it for and how much you have to spend.
Some baskets are great for long term use, some are very easily portable, some are just rediculous. Here is some info on baskets that are priced in the $200 range. eventually I am going to make a chart to make this easier to read, but I do not have excel on this computer I am borrowing.

Baskets: # of chains Weight Price after shipping (average of 2 online sources)

AT TRAPPER 12 plastic chains 20 lbs plus vert. chains $104.95 .

Ching Chainmaster lite 12 chains estimated 32 lbs $191.50 .

DGA MAch 14 18 chains 25lbs. 135.99 (protected by silver zinc plating and is guaranteed for 1 year against failure caused by rust and corrosion.)

DGA Mach lite. 16 chains 25lbs. 151.97 (folds into a bag)

The Innova DISCatcher Sport 18 chains 40 lbs. 174.50 (6 peices)

Gopher Quikshot 18 chains 45 lbs. 179.00 (6 peices)

The InnovaTraveller 6 chains and net 13.5 lbs 115.50 (folds into a bag)

Innova Skill Shot 16 chains 26lbs 117.95 (folds into a bag)

Lightning DB5 18 chains +40 lbs $209.95

Ching Strategy Sport Target Netting only 15lbs 99.95

Instep Disc Golf Goal 12 Chains est. 25lbs 95.95

Halex Disc Golf Basket 12 ropes 15 lbs. $80

*not the cheapest prices, just an average of prices.

It is garbage.

AT TRAPPER: Pros: some people think it is pretty, it is around $100 and supposedly PDGA approved Cons: No Metal, unsure about sturdiness.

Ching Chainmaster lite: Pros: Decent outdoor basket Cons: only 12 chains at over 30 lbs.

DGA Mach 14: Pros: Official looking with 18 metal chains (protected by silver zinc plating and is guaranteed for 1 year against failure caused by rust and corrosion.) Cons: Not as portable as some other baskets

DGA Mach lite. Pros: Very Portable at 25lbs and collapsable. 16 chains Cons: Canvas is less durable and looks less like a "real" basket"

The Innova DISCatcher Sport: Pros: 18 chains, very authentic. Cons: 40 lbs, not as portable or collapsable as other baskets, but it does break into 6 sections.

Gopher Quikshot: Pros: very similar to the Discatcher sport, but with wheels. Cons: Chains give a less satisfying "ching" sound than other baskets, but catches just as well. Heavy.

The InnovaTraveller Pros: Most portable basket, one person can carry 5 baskets at 13.5 lbs each. Cons 6 chains and netting as wel as a square bottom make it less authentic looking. Not durable for consistant outdoor use.

Innova Skill Shot: Pros: Collapsable into a bag at 26 lbs with 16 chains. Cons. Canvas is less durable for long term outdoor exposure. similar to Mach lite

Lightning DB5 Pros: Heavy duty attractive 18 chained basket. Cons: Least portable and most expensive of the portable baskets.

Ching Strategy Sport Target: Pros: unique light and cheap cons: Not a basket at all.

Instep Disc Golf Goal Pros: Cheap with 12 metal chains at 25lbs. Cons: Does not catch as well with out a second set of chains added. relatively easy to put together, but not collapsable like the mach lite, traveller, and skill shot.

Halex Disc Golf Basket: Pros: Cheap basket Cons: No metal, not very durable.

*my opinions through threads and personal experience.

Skill shot was my first. I like it, but the Traveller is so much lighter I prefer to travel with that. I kind of like the Mach lite a little bit more than the skill shot also.
