What exactly is "butter" DX plastic, and why is it worth double the price of a new disc? Serious question.

It's an older run of DX.

The DX plastic varies quite a lot and the newer stuff just doesn't
feel like the older runs. I coulda put Barstamp instead of butter
but that's what I call it.

Way back in the day when DX was all we had Innova used better
plastic in the DX blends. But with all the champ and star stuff they
don't care to get that buttery feel in the DX anymore.
