Description The Disc N Dig Festival ran from 2002 to 2005 @ Zephyr Cove, Lake Tahoe

In 2006 it moved to Santa Cruz Main Beach + Delavega. The festival promoted sustainable lifestyle alternatives tied to place with the support of locally sustainably-minded sponsors and raised money for youth environmental education programs. By combining the 2 low-impact outdoor recreational activities of disc golf and beach volleyball it served to introduce athletes new to one sport or the other, while being entertained by talented local bands!

In this 2004 video produced by Gary Lake & Michael G. Plansky, 1999 world champ Ron Russell (broke Climo's sweep of the 90's), and beach volleyball legend Adam Johnson teamed up to take 2nd place and offer clinics for non-participants in their respective disciplines. Michael has since pursued degrees in landscape architecture and produced a Masters thesis: Disc Golf Course Design: Inscribing Lifestyle into Underutilized Landscapes (2013), which is now available on lulu.com at a 25% discount to dgcr members:

If dg wants to go 'mainstream' we must orient our outreach/design more towards newbies/rec players to build broader interest/fan base/legitimacy, understanding the preferences/culture of the silent legions of golfers...
EVERYBODY WINS!
