Easy to find in the city of Sparta and along the scenic LaCrosse River.

Only 5 baskets are visible. The parks department assured me the other 13 are out in the woods somewhere but they quit maintaining them. No tees are visible.

I hope they begin to maintain this course again.

-Lots of tricky, tight lines through the woods
-Baskets are in good shape (and there's a pretty cool swinging basket on 14)
-Shots over the river and marsh make things a little interesting
-Nice park area

-Very very little signage
-Not many long holes (All par 3s)
-I I it floods pretty easily

The first time I was here, I couldn't find any signage or anybody who knew where the course started, so I just putted on one of the baskets and went home. The second time, I had found a map online and was able to navigate the course fairly easily. The course is actually a really fun course with a variety of shots that are all fairly challenging. There are two holes that go directly over the river that'll test your nerves quite a bit, and most every hole is pretty tight through the woods. Hole 3 is really probably the only hole you can rip a long drive on. If this course had good signage, it would be at least a 3.5 from me.

It's a disc golf course. I think.

Really nice Chainstar baskets. The ones I found were mounted well enough, and caught great. One pin position per hole. I think. A theme is going to start forming now.

I'm being super creative to come up with pros for this course. Of the holes I found (I think they were actual holes), there were some cool lines, especially around the river.

Plenty of parking. I think. Unless a lot of people are using the archery range. Be careful to not get clipped by an arrow. I think. It may be better to just put you out of your misery before starting, though.

Natural tee pads. I think. I kinda sorta stumbled across a few areas that were tees. I think. It's hard to tell, though, outside the occasional tiny, rusty, bent to the ground flags. What I'm saying, I think, is that there aren't many discernible tees. Just spots where it looks like somebody may have once thrown frisbees from. Or performed a seance. I think.

The course is built in a f@#ing swamp. Remember the scene from Stand By Me, where the kids are walking through the water, and suddenly sink? Yeah, that happened here. I just can't fathom how somebody walked through this area and said "yeah, people are going to love walking through a f@#$ing swamp to play disc golf".

Not cart friendly.

No signage anywhere. Navigation is a nightmare. There are some winding paths that run through the woods. I think. I'd call them deer paths, but I think a buck would slap his fawn if he created such a crappy path through anything. There was the occasional arrow painted on a tree, but I'm pretty sure they just led to a scene from Deliverance (I'm almost positive I heard the banjos playing in the distance). It's most assuredly a trap.

If you're a three toothed yokel, you may see this as a pro, but the course is located directly behind a large trailer park. A swamp behind a trailer park. I can't make this stuff up. To top off this hillbilly sundae, the trailer at the entrance to the park flies three flags: Confederate, US, and "Don't Tread On Me". THE SOUTH WILL RISE AGAIN!

I'm sure there's a group of five locals that completely know their way around this place, as it feels far more like somebody's backyard course than it does anything planned by a city (shame on you, Sparta). It's completely dumbfounding, in such a beautiful, picturesque area, that THIS is the spot that was chosen for a disc golf course.

Basically, this is a pretty big waste of some really nice baskets. Don't bother wasting your time here.

It's a city park so getting the city to do anything is like pulling teeth! I would go out there myself and chop the stuff down if I played it regularly, but I don't and won't... it's a short drive to Justin Trails, do the Little Brother, doesn't take up too much of your day.

Interesting Hole Layout/Design

Not too easy and not too tough. Trees here force a few different types of shots.

Quick Play. Took about a half hour or so to get through all 9 holes.

Navigating is sort of difficult if you've never played here before. There are a few arrows painted on trees to help get through some holes.

No markers near the Tee Boxes

Could definitely use some tee markers. There are several holes that play around water (holes 1, 2 & 3) There is a ton of room here. It for sure has the potential for a back 9. I would definitely play here again.

* Elevation on a few holes, as well as water in-play on 2 holes
* Most holes are well wooded or guarded by trees
* Decent flow of course
* Quick, yet enjoyable play

- Tee boxes not well designated (as of 1/2014)
- most of the holes would be considered short (aside from hole 8)
- Some holes are likely to be flooded in the spring months
- Mosquitoes will likely be insane during the summer months
- Some holes are incredibly tight, so if long and open is your thing, this is not the course for you
- Only 9 holes... as of now

I played this course on New Year's Day, so my perception of how it is normally played may be a bit skewed. it was tons of fun, but I can imagine that in the spring it could be incredibly wet and in the summer infested by insects. With that said, it is a unique and fun course. If you are in the area to play Justin trails, this course is worthy of a quick 9.

Word has it that another (possibly championship level) 18 is in development at this park. Time will tell.

(Update 5/19/2014) - Have played this course a few times since the review and bumped up my rating a bit. There are some great holes on this course and it is a fun, quick course, albeit somewhat easy. The course is in the process of an 18-hole redesign as well. My only concern is that several of the holes may be unplayable during the wet season.

1) Design takes into account some great features of the property.

2) Unique hole design on a couple of the holes.

3) Challenge is present on every shot despite the shorter hole lengths.

4) Mach V baskets are my favorite.

5) Plenty of trees come into play, some mature and sprawling and some are shorter and more dense.

6) The river comes into play on one hole also . . . sorry Jason, I hope you got your disc back.

7) This course fits nicely in between the school course at Meadowview Intermediate School and the Justin Trails Resort in terms of providing a a course for a different skill set. Seasoned players will like this and those beginners who fall in love with the sport will also enjoy this one.

1) Natural tees will become an issue down the road, but I did see pavers scattered in a few spots so I am wondering if those are being used for tee pads.

2) Not what I would call a beginner friendly course, because of the brush, the potential disc loss on #2 and #3 and some of the tightness of the holes in the woods.

I enjoyed this course a lot. It was a quick play despite the challenge. It has some unique hole design, forces you to throw a little of everything, and has a nice variety. Check it out if you are ever in Sparta.
