Print The Map! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 26, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is in a park that surrounds a storm water catchment pond. There are the usual city park amenities(bathrooms, water, play area), is fairly well maintained, and not too busy.
The pads are a good size(with the exception of 2, see below) and the pins have been maintained since some previous reviews, in pretty good shape.
The map you can print here is good and necessary.
This ends the pros.

Cons:

I'm going to address this as 2 separate 9s.
The Front:
Since this course uses the pond, some holes will be unplayable if there is water present. Tee 2 is underwater and just pavers, kind of, and 3 and 9 throw across it, impossible for me as I top out at 300' on a good day. The cheat grass is high enough to hide a disc and was plenty dry. had to stop and clean my socks twice.
There is a small homeless camp that was deserted during the day at pin 3 and you could see camps upstream of 1/10.
No signs. Zero. No course map or tee signs or next tee or OB. Without the course map available here it would be tough to play the front and impossible to figure out the back.

The Back: Really, there is no back. It shows holes playing in reverse order on the map but the only tee marked is 10, spray painted on the spillway concrete. All the rest are a worn spot in the grass at best, knee deep in cheat grass and guessing(tee 11) at worst. This is only a double 9 in the loosest, most charitable sense. If you don't have the map, don't bother trying as it was plenty difficult with one.

Other Thoughts:

If you're looking for a quick 9 during the day and are close, it is worth hitting. Used the area pretty well to have some challenging shots. Again, make sure to print the map here or have it on your phone or prepare to be frustrated.
If it was listed as just a 9, I would rate it a 2 or 2.5, but pretending it is a double 9 without doing the work is annoying.

Never AGAIN!!! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 29, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Concrete pad for 9 holes

Cons:

No signage of what hole is what.
Park is full of trash especially hole 3, and 9.
Can't find back 9
Grasses are way too tall almost lost a disc on 3 and 9.
Tones on dry grasses.
Homeless people lives there.
Baskets are beat up

Other Thoughts:

Hole 3 the basket is elevated.
Never coming back here again until they fix all of these issues and more. Waste of time don't bother coming here. Played with 2 other friends here today.

nice course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 29, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The tee pads and baskets are in good shape. Course can be slightly challenging. Does require to shoot forehand and backhand. Not played by many people so you can move at your own pace. Does have bathrooms and water fountains. Good use of the land, very nice layout.

Cons:

There is no signage. Teepads not marked. Can get muddy for a few weeks after a good rain. Homeless people do call the course home. Pins can be moved but never are. Tough to navigate the course even with the map given on here.

Other Thoughts:

Have heard that there is going to be another nine baskets and tee pads put in. City has started to keep the park cleaner. The teepads were not numbered because the numbers will be changed after the other nine holes are put in. I will be more then happy to show anyone around the course on Saturdays or Sundays, just message me on here. It is a fun course once you learn it.

Helen Keller Signage And A Stevie Wonder Back Nine! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 20, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

So I attempted to play on a day following some rain. I believe I played the front nine. There was no signage to help and not a single local in sight. I did find nine concrete tee pads. They all had lots of strange markings on them, including the intials of the people who had constructed them. I would have liked to have been able to read a hole number somewhere on one of them. The # 3 basket across the gully by the causeway/dam/breezeway did in fact have a # 3 on top. This # 3 hole would have been a fun throw to make except this area looked to be flooded. I chose to skip the hole and tried to walk across but it was too wet.

I did manage to risk life and limb and cross over the causeway thing to get to the # 3 basket without walking several miles around (this might be an exageration on my part!).
I was able to finish what I believe to be is the front nine. Be after much searching, I could find no evidence of a back nine.

Cons:

SIGNAGE!
The fact that part of the course is unplayable after a days rain.
I never found the # 2 tee pad.
Where is this phantom back nine?
It would have been great to inscribe the hole # in the tee pad the way they did at Thunderbird Paseo.

Other Thoughts:

I guess maybe the locals know to avoid this course after recent rains. I'd like to give it a shot with someone who knows their way around around. There were some fun and challanging throws to be had here. Abd I certainly realize how difficult and frustrating it is to try and put up signs and then have the local vandals tear them right down. But I see no evidence here than anyone has made any effort to sign this course. There's lots of space here and the area could always use another good course.

signage 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 3, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Centrally located near metrocenter, really close to me.New baskets.Fresh course.Long holes, short ones. Wide open layout. Tight hidden holes.Dreaded dangling limbs over the basket.(have to have them) steep on hillside pin locations.Elevated tee pads

Cons:

cat tails, goatheads, and tumbleweeds await you in the basin (where a lot of the action ends up) Garbage is accumulating on the paths as there are no cans designated for the course.(plenty of cans in the surrounding area.Dont be a lazy doofus.)Some of the trees have thorns.

Other Thoughts:

The weeds are getting trampled as more rounds are played,so in order to avoid socks full of stickers, place your shots where it has been trampled down.Tee box markers are disappearing,so some players (me and others)have taken it upon themselves to mark them

Sweet(but no) water. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 8, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

A medley of conditions: manicured grass, natural desert, sloped greens, big trees, moderate distances, mandatories, O.B., alternate "tee pads" and basket locations, elevation changes, righty & lefty finishes, blind holes... a little bit of everything really. O.B. on more than a few holes. All in all a a pretty good challenge to the diversity and consistency of one's game. Bathrooms, and water fountains are a plus.

Cons:

Lack of tee pads, signage, and a back 9 that runs one smack dab into oncoming players. Easy to lose discs on some of the holes, especially #8.

Other Thoughts:

Foxtails and goats' heads are heavy crossing the drainage, be forewarned. Dusty and hot, but nothing compared to say- Buffalo or even Thunderbird/Paseo. Sweetwater is a nice, clean little park, but the drainage is a giant garbage flume.

This course has promise! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 15, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Now THIS is a big course! Very long, very challenging. The course is located in a large grassy drainage ditch and the baskets line the outsides of the basin. Everything is rated as par-3, although there are some good opportunities for the course designers to throw some par-4s in there. This course was designed to kick your butt.

Cons:

It's hard to be negative about an up-and-coming course, but I should be fair. Here are the cons:
- Course is 9 baskets
- Layout is very confusing.
- Nothing, NOTHING is marked. I'm sure there used to be paint indicating the tees and directions, but it's no longer there. We found about 4 / 18 tee pads when we played and made up the rest. Find out where everything is ahead of time.

Other Thoughts:

For those playing for the first time: the first tee pad is on the grass near the playground. You then play the course counter-clockwise around the huge drainage basin. Once you play #9, the course then goes clockwise.

This course has great potential. If you live in the area, help the course designers raise funds for some tee pads!
