Don't waste your time.. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 10, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Hard to think of any pros

Cons:

Course is hard to navigate. No signs for platforms to throw from. Platforms themselves are 2 red bricks which are hard to find. Holes 5, 6 and 8 i couldn't even find the baskets. Hole 4 is unplayable.

Could be a decent course but very little care has been put into maintaining this course.

Other Thoughts:

Complete waste of time.

Potential but absolutely no TLC 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 4, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

The layout seemed good. Found all the baskets and tees. Hole 1 was fun. The ditch was mowed and ground was dry so guess i got lucky?

Cons:

Where to start...

Hole 1- took a while to figure out the tee location. Fun hole. Basket is dinged a little.

Hole 2- straight shot with backyards to the right.

Hole 3- shot across the field, not a bad hole but nothing stands out

Hole 4- got to the teepad, threw up to the gap into the woods...and was greeted with a hellish mix of poison ivy, totally overgrown. Saw a construction cone on top of basket. Couldn't putt in due to plants completely growing through..

Hole 5 & 6- in the woods, couldn't be played due to overgrowth. Went to both pads and couldn't see the baskets.

Hole 7- playable but risky. Line to basket and right is all 15 foot high Prarie grass. Nothing is coming out of that, ever. Basket was dinged up.

Hole 8- completely overgrown. Unplayable

Hole 9- basket is fine and in the clear. However the tee is completely overgrown with no shot out of the woods.

Poison ivy all over, can't even putt through the holes. Without udisc I wouldn't have found most holes.

Other Thoughts:

This is the worst I've ever played. Which is a shame because with some TLC this could be a decent little 9 hole stop. 2.5 potential in my opinion.

Just Don't 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 23, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

• There are baskets?

Cons:

• Completely soaked, even in draughts
• Overgrown and not manicured
• Missing tee signs
• Some holes flirt too much with private property & backyards

Other Thoughts:

This course should never have even been built because the whole park has always been known to be a sinkhole. Any and all water funnels onto the grounds and walking it always feels like you're in a grass version of quick sand.

Maybe someday the baskets will get removed and placed on a property that is actually viable for a course.

Unplayable. Putting practice only 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 9, 2019 Played the course:once

Cons:

Unfortunately the course is in disrepair. Only 3 or 4 holes playable. Tall weeds, grass, trees growing through and around baskets. No signage to mark them. There are baskets, putting practice is doable.

Needs some love 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 17, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course was dry. Some of the holes had fun elevation.

Cons:

The course needs someone to care for it. There is no signage so it is hard to find the teepads.

Other Thoughts:

I am sure it may not be like this all year round but the mosquito's are horrible and make the course borderline unplayable.

Why bother? 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 29, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

9 hole course (kinda) in a small park in Woodstock, IL.

Nice DGA baskets, and all mounted well. Number plates help with navigation. One pin position per hole..I think. Maybe. Who knows.

Natural tees, with two red pavers to signify. It appears this course rarely gets used, so the teeing areas are all in good shape and flat. One tee per hole.

Some decent elevation in play. Hole 1 is cool, and uses the sparse trees well.

A decent amount of distance on several holes, which lets you grip and rip a little bit.

Cons:

The woods that house many of the holes (4, 5, 6, 8, 9) are completely overgrown. Maybe they're playable in early spring, but in August, they're nearly impassable. We certainly weren't going to lose our frisbees to play them.

It wasn't wet while we were here, but it's pretty easy to see that the big bowl would retain plenty of water.

No signs, just some metal posts that used to have signs attached to them. Once you find hole 1, though, the navigation is pretty simple, as it just runs a circle around the park.

Other Thoughts:

This is a bummer of a course. It could be decent, but somebody would have to actually care about it. Basically, this is a waste of good baskets, and somebody should get their throwing hand slapped with a ruler as a result.

Basically, don't bother unless your family lives next door. Even then, you may want to find something else to do that day.

New course in area! Oh, darn, it is horrible... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 20, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Hmmm,
Uhhhh,
Let's see...
First hole is down hill? That was kind of neat.
I am serious when I say I can't think of any positives but that one.

Cons:

Center of course is water retention area
Can't mow because that area is too wet
Holes are bland
Holes too near Roads
Holes too near houses
Wooded holes have no paths
All signs have been stolen
No tee pads
No course map
People playing soccer in the middle of the field.
Looking for discs becomes a habit.
No one taking care of course.
No signs signaling disc golf area.

Other Thoughts:

I'd like to start this review out by saying I was very excited to hear of a new course in the area. I will also say I always give the benefit of the doubt when reviewing and think many can be too quick to rate courses poorly.

With that being said, I didn't give a zero stars as I suppose a course could be worse. But the 1 stars I gave is very generous indeed.
So, I started out in the parking lot, having no idea which way to go. I walked up towards hole one, but there was no sign, and I ventured towards hole 8. Looking forward, I couldn't understand where hole 8 was, but hole 9 was close. The only reason I knew it was hole 8 was that it was pretty much the only hole with a sign. I ventured back up the hill towards a pole by the road north of the parking lot and found hole 1!! At the time, it was just a guess that it was hole one.

So, let's do a hole by hole breakdown.

Hole 1: If you park in the right parking lot (there are 2 and you should park in the East lot with the playground but there are no signs to let you know you are in a disc golfing area), you walk North up the hill and you will find a metal pole. There won't be any sign, or a teepad, but there will be two brick stepping stones in the ground to mark that you are in the right spot. This was the only hole worth throwing (I thought) until I threw. I faded left. There is a ridge that runs above the water retention field that runs along the right side of the course. Think huge field to your left and a 10 foot hill running along the edge of it. If you are RhBh or LhFh, and fade left, you will go into an unmowed, mucky mess that is down in the field. I was soaked and muddy from the knees down, looking for my disc for 15 minutes, after my first throw. And, by looking at it from afar, you would never guess you could lose a disc at this point. If you are RhFh or LhBh, you need to be aware that you can throw into people's yards. The positive is that it is downhill and the hole sits under a very pretty oak tree. That is my only positive for this course.

Hole 2: Still running along that ridge, don't fade left, or you will get wet. Fade right, you will be in someone's yard or hit a house. This hole is bland, straight, and nothing special.

Hole 3: To your left, there is a nature/wetlands looking area with very tall grass. It is at the end of the ridge and the end of the field near the second parking lot. Good luck if you go in there. Wet and very tall grass. To your right, more houses. This hole continues along the same line as the first two holes, east to west along the "ridge" that borders the retention field.

Hole 4: Good luck not landing in someone's yard or not landing on the street. This hole goes from the North side of the retention field, across the second parking lot, and you end on the south side of the field up towards the road.

Hole 5: So, at this point, you are heading back across the field toward where you parked. You get to hole 5 and have to throw south into the "woods." Not much of a woods. These woods are not mowed in anyway. There are no paths. You can't see the hole and think that hole 6 is the basket. It isn't. Hole 5 is deeper in the "woods" but right up near a road. It is to the right of hole 6. If you overshoot the hole, again, backyard or street. Have fun finding your discs!! I am being sarcastic. The overgrowth is a pain.

Hole 6: Throwing back out of the "woods" and back towards the retention field. Also not manicured in anyway. More tall grass and looking for discs. Hole 6 basket is currently just sitting in some overgrowth. Does anyone take care of this course?

Hole 7: Now you are in the retention field, hugging it along some very tall prairie grass to your right, heading back towards your car. It is wet to the right and hard to find discs. To your left is the field, which is, at least at this time, a mucky mess. The field was designed to drain water from the surrounding neighborhood, so not really sure why anyone thought it would be a good place for a park.

Hole 8: Huh? Where is it? I didn't bother to find out. Funny, because it was nearly the only hole with a sign. I think it was towards some houses. Basket 9 is close and to the left of the "teepad" for 8. So I threw for that and left.

Hole 9: Lost interest, was soaked, left, never to return.

Again, I am very hesitant to ever give bad reviews but this course disappointed me very much. I never get the feeling that I am sick of walking and bored at a course. I got that feeling here. I just wanted to get on a dry pair of shoes.

Good beginner course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 1, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Dual baskets
-some long holes, some shorter holes; decent variety for the land
-Very very new, so it's not going to too busy and the baskets are in perfect shape
-nice and open for the most part, so it's beginner friendly but will give more advanced players a good opportunity to work new lines with discs and have a more casual round
-Location: I'm from Woodstock and the closest courses are about 15-20 min away. It's in a good central spot (not the most challenging course, but it's something!)

Cons:

-No tee pads (only grass)
-The tee signs are just laminated paper, some are missing (the course isn't hard to navigate, but still. Maybe those were only temporary?)
-In the spring/summer, I know this area floods, so it's going to be pretty wet.

Other Thoughts:

I really like the course for what it is. Woodstock is certainly not a disc golf city, so the course isn't meant to be a top level course. I think that it's going to be a nice course for families to come out and bring their kids to play for fun/ start out (there's a playground near by). Like I said in the Pros, it's going to be really nice for me in the summer to go play a quick warm up round because there's some nice ~400ft holes to let it rip (I'm not a great player, but certainly not a beginner). For what it is, I think it's a really nice course, but I wouldn't make a day trip to play it. If you're in the area though, I would check it out just to get out and play!

Get your feet wet 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 17, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Course plays around a small park that looks like it gets very little use. Baskets are brand new DGA Mach IIIs. There is a few holes that have some elevation change. Plus, a few wooded holes. There are two positions for each basket.

Course has a few fun holes.

Cons:

The course is wet. It hasn't rained in days and still most of the course is quite damp. On hole 1 if you hyzer out into the open grass area you are going to get wet feet unless you have waterproof shoes.

Course still has a lot of work to be done, for instance 6's fairway is weeds and cat tails. Tee pads are marked by patio blocks which can be hard to find. Lots of long grass around the course.

There are two positions for each basket but most of them are so close together it hardly changes the shot. That money could have been used for something else that would have made the course better.

Many of the hole run right next to private property.

Other Thoughts:

2018 UPDATE: At this point I am starting to think the only reason the town put this course in was to run off the homeless people living in the woods. I believe that it worked, for a while. But the town isn't maintaining the course so no one wants to play here. A tree fell on one hole 5's basket in the spring and 4+ months later nothing has been done. On top of that the area is a horrible location to put a course. It only take a small amount of rain to flood most of the course making it unplayable. Last time I went by I saw what I believe was a homeless person's camp in the woods between hole 5 and 6. If I had any say I would pull the baskets and hire a professional course designer to design a course in Emricson Park.

This course is disappointing, mainly because the land is so bad. If the ground was dry it would be an ok course, but based on the the mowing I assume the ground is usually wet and soft.

If this course was bone dry and had tee pads I would probably give it a 1.5. But as it is I am lower my rating to a 0.5. Between the lack of maintenance and the course being unplayable most of the year this just isn't a course worth playing.
