not fun 9 hole course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 30, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Tees are now marked for 9 holes
Kiosk with map of the course
Nice new baskets
Some elevation
2 wooded tunnel technical shots.
More parking than you will ever need

Cons:

7 wide open holes
Thick weeds
Lots of poison Ivy in the rough

Other Thoughts:

This review is going to be almost the exact opposite of the first review of this course.

Seriously, don't bother playing here unless your working on your distance or a course bagger.

Most of the holes are long and wide open with two short technical holes in the woods. Now there is some elevation and hole 7 does have a slightly elevated basket. These did add a little to the course, but I did not enjoy my round. I played it and left.

So I rated this course as a 2, in all honestly, it is not totally awful, it does have one or 2 interesting holes. I just felt it was not fun to play. It didn't help that it was super windy the day I played either.

Here is my biggest problem with this course, it is a 9 hole course in an area that really is not good for disc golf. This should have been 9 holes course averaging 200ft each for families, because the area is wide open, the design was with long holes to add some challenge. Well, all that does is turn off the families and the course is boring so regular players will skip this and play one of the other nearby courses.

I will say this, someone has spent the time to mark the tee's and clear out the wooded holes. To that person, I thank you. You don't have much to work with and you did the best you can. I hope your able to get some more tree's planted. A few tree's would make a HUGE difference on this course.

Would I play here again? Hell no, not worth it. I bagged it, not going back.

Fun 9 Hole Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 15, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Brazos River Park disc golf course is a fun new course in the southwest park of town, an area of town that is teeming with decent <18 hole courses.

The course has ample parking and brand new DisCatcher baskets. I really do not like when courses claim themselves as 18 hole courses with only 9 baskets. This one is pretty close to being able to actually make the claim for 18 (well, 17, since there hole 3 has one tee) unique holes. The longer tees are significantly longer than the shorter tees. You will be working hard for birdies on the long holes, while with the shorter ones, you should be looking at -3 for an Int/Adv skill level player.

There is a decent amount of elevation by Houston standards and the course uses it well. Baskets are perched higher than tees in some places like holes 6 and 8. And some tee shots you are throwing from high up like holes 2 and 7.

I enjoyed the two holes in the woods to sort of break up the monotony of all wide open shots. Kudos to the designers for having the foresight to plan and work that out. Navigation is no issue here.

Cons:

I enjoyed playing here, but it is a pretty typical course with nothing new to see here. There are a lot of wide open holes, but not much could be done about that with the land that was given.

The course winds with a walking trail. When I played, there was a dad with his daughter on a bike, and we crossed paths a few times. Luckily, he knew what I was doing so he was cautious and courteous of me, but I know that is the exception not the norm. Hole 2 cross the path all together.

Other Thoughts:

This is a fun play. I recommend, if you have the time, to play both sets of tees for the full experience. I almost did not play both, but I am glad I did.

Like mentioned before, this course adds another solid 9 hole course in an area that has a bunch.
