Golf Cart Goggles

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 20, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

(1.932 Rating) An open and longer than normal 9 where you can legally drink a few beers and do donuts.
- CHALLENGING - Perhaps my favorite course quality was being able to grip and rip it a couple of times. Two holes are well over 400 feet. I should have practiced my rollers. There is some water guarding baskets from universal attack and the winds will likely make an impact. I would grade the difficulty as a tweener between Rec and Intermediate level.
- GOLF CARTS AND BASIC AMENITIES - I didn't use one, but I'm pretty sure I could have rented a golf cart. Having access to golf carts is a nice bonus feature that most courses don't have and most likely never will have. I could definitely see someone upping the rating a half point for something like this. To get it upped to the 5.0 level, these carts better look like a Ferrari and be loaded with beers, cigars and waitress caddies from the Tilted Kilt. As for the basics. Decent 4 feet by 7.5 feet long brick paver tees and Chainstar baskets.
- QUICK PLAY - I showed up when they opened the doors in the early morning hours. I got an empty course at tee (1) and blew through the layout in 21 minutes. I have no idea how much longer it is if ball golfers are in front, but I could see it easily adding 15, maybe even 30 minutes.
- MAINTENANCE - I really like the care free ease of walking on ball golf mowed fairways. It's just one less thing to worry about. I doubt the ground conditions are ever bad here, unless its dustbowl dry.

Cons:

Shared with evil doers.
- BALL GOLF - This course is laid directly overtop an in-use pitch and putt ball golf course. Thus I would assume that it's possible that golfers and disc golfers could be out on the course at the same time. Not a major concern as both users follow the same layout, but players are going to need to be keenly aware at times.
- NAVIGATION AND SIGNAGE - Greens fees include a scorecard and pencil. I think that was it for navigation and signage. Players are going to need a navigational app to run a round smoothly on the first time here. It's mostly open here, but a couple tees are hard to spot. On my appearance, I accidently went from (5) to (7) due to a lack of focus.
- PAY TO PLAY - I want to say I paid 5 dollars, which is really not worth it as there are better free courses nearby here, like North Water Tower for instance. However, this one does have some nice dynamics over some of the nearby courses, such as a clubhouse, restrooms, discs to purchase, snacks and beer.
- LOST DISC POTENTIAL - I think the odds of losing a disc is higher than normal here. Water comes into play on the last four holes. For those not willing to risk it, there is ample bail out space on three of them, but on hole (8), the water needs to be crossed. Despite these concerns, I think the water elements were used well and they added more points to my rating score than took away.
- BEGINNER FRIENDLY - Considering the disc risk and the length, I don't think this course is beginner friendly.
- HOLE VARIETY - Considering the features and size of the property, I'd say the variety isn't too bad. It's generally flat and open, but there are some modest sloped berms that effect play lines, some big ponds and some decent length. Overall, still a touch less variety than the average course I've seen to date.
- NATURAL BEAUTY - I scored it 35 percentile. As noted above, good maintenance and manicured fairways. On the flipside, it's open with urban sprawl visible in every direction. The south Florida vegetation doesn't seem to pop the same here either compared to other parks I've visited in the area.

Other Thoughts:

A solid 2.0 reasonable course to me. It felt like golf and looked like golf. It just lacked the pop and tropical intrigue enjoyed by some of the surrounding courses. The cream of the crop for the Sarasota area I think is still courses like NWT and Lakeview. Worth checking out once for those that live within 25 minutes. It will be preferred most by those that like to launch and that like open courses. Those that prefer technical courses with 200 to 250 foot shots probably won't like it much at all.

Not bad, Not Great drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 14, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Wide open course.
Short reasonable holes.
Decently stocked "pro shop"
First time I have been to a disc golf course with a Pro Shop and bar on site

Cons:

Small Tee Pads
Poorly identified baskets on some holes not easy to see
A few of the holes were hard to figure out where the tee pad was.

Other Thoughts:

OK, so this was an interesting experience. Definitely not my favorite but also not my worst experience. Here is the thing....

I have not played a course where there was ball golf and disc golf going on at the same time. This was one of those things that I really wasn't certain on. Now, that being the case, the ball golfers who were playing were very nice. I had trouble finding the 7th tee pad. That was definitely a bit strange to have to ask directions to the pad.

I think this would be a decent stop for a warm up if nothing else.

As an experience, I can now say that I have done it. Will I return to play there again? Likely not!

Suncoast- voted best course at which to get wasted! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 1, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Get a golf cart and beer- throw discs, get hammered, and do donuts in the green(just kidding- do donuts elsewhere than the green.) This course is flipping amazing when you are riding around in golf carts.

Cons:

The ponds are really nasty if you need to go in to recover a lost disc. Beware regular golfers who have been known to mock disc golfers for being hippy losers.

Other Thoughts:

This is a great open course for beginners to learn how to play. There is almost always a lot of wind so it is a good way to practice learning how to work around the wind.

You know you are an intermediate player if you can score 27 or less on this 9 hole course.

It has come to my attention that some seriously demented people are downvoting my review. You people make me sick. The people who found this review unhelpful have all been defeated by me on the course. How dare you?? Who do you think you are?

Par 3 Ball Golf Course Makes For OK Disc Golf Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 3, 2019 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The course shares space with a "par three" ball golf course. There is a clubhouse with discs to rent and they probably will have discs for sale in the future. Get the map and scorecard when you pay ($6.00 per person plus extra for a cart). We easily walked the course but the carts would be welcomed in the summertime. Nicely concreted in brick tees (see cons) and shiny new machV baskets (one each per hole). There is a good mix of short to mid-length holes with enough obstacles to force a little shot shaping and several fair water holes towards the end. The course is fun enough to be entertaining and is more open than most of the other area courses so it offers a little different type of experience.

Cons:

Unfortunately, there are a few concerns. The brick tees, although very nice are a little on the small side. There are no tee signs at all, but the scorecards have a very useful map and hole lengths. No hole numbers on the baskets either, which could help in a couple of areas. The course could be considered a little vanilla compared to the other nearby courses. Also, the cost could be a negative to thrifty minded disc golfers who are used to playing for free.

Other Thoughts:

So what we have here is an ok disc golf course that makes the best of the ball golf course that it resides on. Also, the sand trap rakes make great golf disc retrievers if you don't go too far into the water hazards. And of course: Sky Pilots Rule! And I had great fun trying to see how many golf balls I could hide in one of my cardmates bags before he noticed! (It was around 10. I'm guessing all the balls on the course came from stray shots from the driving range).
