Pros:

- well maintained course
- good quality baskets
- navigation is fairly simple
- good variety of distances
- fun top of the world shot

Cons:

- tee signs only include hole numbers
- tee pads are just grass next to the tee signs
- Other than one elevated tee pads, the entire course is flat
- a few long walks between holes
- lots of goose poop

Other Thoughts:

It's always fun playing on a golf course but a few improvements could really help this course.

So much potential 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 13, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Gorgeous views
- Immaculately maintained grounds.
- Good variety of hole lengths.
- Interesting green layouts.
- Excellent staff that really seems to want Disc Golfers there.
- Water comes into play on several holes.
- Restrooms and water available at the clubhouse.
- Very forgiving roughs.
- Low chance of disc loss.
- A very enjoyable place to spend a few hours.

Cons:

- No tee pads.
- No information at tee markers.
- Confusing map.
- Mis-labeled baskets add to an already confusing map.
- Low-quality baskets.
- No practice basket.
- Goose poop in many areas of the course.
- Very wet in the mornings.
- Mostly flat.
- $10 per round is high but it does include a disc rental.

Other Thoughts:

- Lake Estes is an 18 hole course that plays across and along the fairways of the 9 hole ball golf course. Fairways are wide open, with baskets placed among guardian trees on most of the greens.

- Estes Park is a beautiful place and attracts many visitors during the summer. Expect long lines of traffic leading into this mountain town, and plan accordingly if you have a tee time to meet.

- Golf Courses are notoriously wet in the mornings due to the sprinklers, and this place is no different. Bring waterproof shoes or at least a second pair of shoes and socks for the ride home. Also, goose poop is everywhere so bring a second towel for cleaning your discs.

- Estes Park sits at 7,522'. Your discs will fly more overstable here, and I feel not having a practice basket to test out your putts is a negative.

- Make sure to grab a map from the clubhouse. Although it's confusing, navigating the course without it would be almost impossible. Plus, the distances are listed on the back which is helpful since the tee-posts have no information other than hole number.

- Water comes into play on several holes, but it's only a challenge for newer players. The tees are set close to the water, so if you can carry about 150' you'll be fine.

- The course was 9 holes, and they charged $5 per round. Adding 9 holes and then charging $10 seems short-sighted to me. A $10 day pass or $5 per round seems more reasonable.

- The baskets really bring the score of this place down. I can play on just about any basket without complaining, but these are very low-quality portables. A few were damaged, and most are mislabeled. A permanent basket upgrade is sorely needed for such a beautiful place.

- The staff is very friendly and welcoming. They seemed very happy to have us there and helped with discussing some of the more confusing aspects of the map and layout. Wonderful people!

- I get the feeling the owners saw an opportunity to add some revenue, but they didn't really know much about Disc Golf or how to implement it. I don't know if they're just testing the waters by not having tees, signs, and quality baskets.

- Final Thought...We had a lot of fun playing here. This place is beautiful and having such a well-maintained course is a treat. However, the basket situation has to be addressed. For a place charging $10 per round, this is a deal-breaker for getting a higher score. This place could easily accommodate multiple tee placements, and proper tee signs would make the round more enjoyable. There is so much potential for improvement, but it's a fun bag even as it sits. Hopefully, the owners see value in adding some much needed improvements.

Pretty OK. 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 4, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Decent mix of hole distances, ranging from the low 200's to a few in the 400-500' range. Most fall in the 250-350' range.

The course utilizes the small number of trees scattered about, mostly through placing the baskets in the various tree clusters creating some fairly interesting greens. There's a few holes with water in play.

Being a (ball) golf course, the whole place was well trimmed and maintained. There's also a pro-shop with snacks and drinks and such. (I don't recall seeing any disc golf equipment for sale but I also wasn't looking.)

You get a scorecard with distances, par, and a map on the reverse side. (Some of the holes on the map seem to be WAY out of scale. The arrow showing the direction of a 400' hole is the same length as the arrow for a 200' hole. That said, the layout was largely correct.)

More than anything, it was a chance to get a round in without having to leave the city. The views were lovely. Much of the course plays along and/or over the swift moving river (more of a large creek by my standards) which feeds Lake Estes, plus you're surrounded by the Rocky Mountains.

Cons:

The tee pads are natural turf, marked by a simple 4x4 post with the hole number at the top. There is no hole layout or distance on the post. There is no distinction as to which side of the post you should utilize. I could not find hole 9's tee post anywhere so I just made a guess as best as I could.

Hole 7 is a bit of a wonky design. A short horseshoe shaped hole that plays with a mando around some trees which forces the throw to be shaped around a green.

Hole 14's tee is on a bit of a slope.

I played the course the day after it was expanded to 18 holes so many of the baskets were marked incorrectly.

Speaking of the baskets: As far as I could tell, they were all generic portables. The types of baskets you can buy on Amazon for $90-100 each. Some of them are set in concrete, some of them are a bit wobbly, and a couple of them had chains that were rigged back into some semblance of catching shape because the bottom ring broke.

The course is right on the edge of Lake Estes, there's geese everywhere. As such, there's goose poop all over the course.

Other Thoughts:

To be honest, I had the course rated a 1/2 notch higher until I finished writing the review and realized I had more negative things to say than positive.

The golf itself is a bit ho-hum with mostly straight shots to a basket that may or may not be set in a cluster of trees. I tend to prefer a bit more line shaping than is required on a mostly open course like this.

In an area as nice as Estes Park I would expect a bit more in terms of the baskets used. I realize ball golf is the money maker here, but if you're going to do something, do it well.

All in all, I enjoyed the course but it's definitely nothing that will knock your socks off. To me, the $10/round fee is a bit steep but if the course sticks around I'd probably stop by to play any time I visit until other options are available in the area.

Beautiful views, Long course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 2, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

9 hole pay-to-play ($5) course on a very scenic ball golf course. Beautiful scenery in the Estes Valley - Big Thompson River runs through the course and comes into play on about 4 holes. Grass tees and all grass is in perfect shape. Lots of room to bomb it out if you have a big arm. Not a lot of challenging shots. Three tees marked on each hole so playable lengths for most everyone. Water in play on last 4 holes has a bit of a challenge. Very freind

Cons:

This course has plenty of room to be a good 18 holer. 3 holes over 1000 feet and a 4th over 900. Little elevation change of a course in Colorado. Holes could use a little tweaking to use the trees on the golf course and more of a challenge.

Other Thoughts:

Heard a rumor from other players that they are considering adding another 9 baskets. That would be great.
