Pros:

York Prep is a short, quick-play 6-hole layout. It does an excellent job preparing kids for real courses.
- This is a great kid friendly course. None of the six holes are longer than 195 feet. If a kid can aim a throw relatively straight, even elementary age kids should see the chances for 3s, or even a possible 2 with a bit of luck.
- For only six holes in a small plot of land, the course does offer some variety. #1 is your ho-hum straight shot. #2 is across an access road, allowing for a big sweeping shot. #3's basket is protected by a tree, not that the obstacle stopped me from a hole-in-one. #4's tee is missing or not located, but it does have a basket protected by trees. #5 is a slight uphill, dogleg left. #6 is a straight shot to a slightly raised basket.
- Good for a quick round or 4. I went slower than normal because I was taking pictures and searching for #4's tee. I was still done in 15 minutes. Could easily play the course in less than 10 minutes or a full 18 in a half-hour.
- #1 is slightly out of the loop. Think of the course as if it were lowercase 'b'. #1 is the line at the top, and holes #2 - 6 make the loop. You could easily find yourself just playing these five holes, perhaps as part of a speed round.
- Because each hole is so short, you may end up throwing multiple discs for a cubbie ace. I holed out on #3. ASIDE: I will not call a sub-100-foot hole an ace. It's a 1 on the scorecard, but I'm not signing a disc or doing any of that. END TANGENT. You grab a handful of putters and you'll suddenly find yourself throwing three, four, five discs on these holes. Shoot, you made the trip here. Might as well make your round fun.

Cons:

Course hits the mark for being a short, kid-friendly course. Other than a lack of markings for #4's tee, course is an easy play.
- The biggest con is simply that this course offers next to nothing. Six short holes playing in a loop with obstacles on each one (parking lots, fenced areas, and thicket) that prevent this from being a safari course, or even a decent practice area.
- Course is only available for play during non-school hours. Evenings and weekends during the school year. During the summer or on holidays, I think you're good to go any time.
- Hole #3 would offer a major safety risk if other people are using the picnic tables. You're throwing directly over said tables. One accident/mis-throw and I see the course's future in jeopardy. Shoulder shrug.
- Expanding on the above thought, you're severely limited by spacing on how much land is available for practice. Sure, if you live in the neighborhood, you can use this for putting, scrambling, or approach shots. If you're looking for field work, this isn't the course for that.

Other Thoughts:

If I'm introducing elementary-aged kids, York Prep is a great course for that. If I'm playing an ace race, I'm playing this layout three times. If I live in the neighborhood, I'd like to take advantage of my own play area. If I'm not in one of those categories, this course doesn't have anything to offer me.
- Of the closest courses, all school/church 9-12-hole layouts, I prefer all of them to York Prep in terms of quality and challenge.
- In all reality, this course is hard to think of as a course due to its layout and confinement. For each hole, the following hole's tee is 50-75 feet from the prior hole's basket. Is that because kids get lost easily, or have short attention spans, or is because there isn't any more room for anything else?
- Because of the lack of space, I wonder how sustainable this course will be long term. The first time a school administrator gets annoyed by having a basket in the way, a kid gets hit by a disc, or a car backs into a basket, I wonder if that's going to be the onus for having the course pulled.
- My rule of thumb is that any course that's less than 1,000 feet can't be consider anywhere near average. It's destined to be a bagger course and that's it. As I said in my original review, I doubt I'll ever drive out of the way to specifically play this course ever again. Driving right by, however, I've got 12 minutes to spare.

Good Beginner Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 23, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

It's in a small area so there's not a lot of walking. There is some decent shade on some holes. The baskets are professional quality. Most of the tee boxes are easily found, except #4.

Cons:

Most of the holes are straight on without much thought having to go into shot placement etc...

have to play through 3 times to make 18 holes.

Other Thoughts:

Good beginner course to get people started without too many hills and long distances to walk.
