Great beginner/intermediate course. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 15, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a great little course for the area. It's very cool that the school district built a course for the kids. It's so crazy that the kids can walk out the door of the school and there's a basket less than 100' from the door.

This course is pretty well designed given the land they have. The holes have a good mix of tight woods, and wide open fields where you can let it fly. It also has a good mix of shots that force you to throw backhand and forehand. I like that both the short and long tee's are clearly marked and distances are given. There's also plenty of signs around the course to direct you to the next hole. The MVP Black Hole baskets are in great shape and do a great job at catching.

The short tee's are very beginner friendly, or if you're an experienced player, it's all ace runs. I may have to come back and play from the short's just to try to nail an ace. The longer tee's are a bit more challenging. Forcing you to make a good shot, or a long drive, in order to get the birdie. Some of the rough on the holes can easily make it possible to bogey or double bogey.

If you are a lefty or have a good forehand (righty), there are some great holes that work well for you.

Cons:

For what this course is, it's pretty great. But since I have to list a few cons, here's what I can see.

-Tee pads are natural. Being concrete would be great.
-Only 12 holes
-It's on school property. So if classes or sports games are going on, there will be lots of outside activity interfering with your round.
-It's pretty flat land for the most part, so after heavy rains, there will be standing water and mud.
-There's a bit of a walk from the final hole back to the parking lot by hole 1, but nothing too unmanageable.

Other Thoughts:

For what this course has to work with, it's pretty well done. I'm not really sure there is much more that could be done. So with that, I will go over each hole and what it has to offer.

1. Starts behind the public library. This is where you'll likely want to park to start. There are some smaller trees on the fairway that make getting to the basket a little tricky, and I'm sure with time, these tree's will get bigger and bigger. But this hole offer's both BH and FH lines.

2. This one is across the entry way road to the school. The hole plays across a wide open field with nothing in the way, so let it rip.

3. This is another longer hole, that adds a little difficulty. The right hand side has thick brush on the other side of a walking trail, and the left hand side has a fenced in sports field beside the basket. Up the middle you have telephone poles in the way. So you can choose whichever line you want, but there's something in the way no matter which line you choose, so nail your line carefully.

4. Another fairly open hole. Let her rip.

5. This tee is tucked behind a little pavilion and can be tricky to find. It's a shorter hole and it's very forehand friendly. If you have a good forehand, a birdie is very possible. Heavy brush on the right hand side force you to throw a turnover BH or a hyzer FH. Lefty's will love this hole.

6. This basket is up a little hill at the edge of the same woods that 5 follows. This hole is a good bit longer and again plays very friendly to a FH, or a backhand turnover. Another lefty friendly hole.

7. This one takes you into the woods. It's pretty short, but it's a tighter gap, so thread the needle. The basket is on a small little hill that makes it elevated in a sense. Another easy birdie if you hit the line.

8. Another wooded hole. This one's a little longer and more open, but some very strategically placed tree's make the fairway trickier to navigate. The FH line is very tricky to get through. I found the backhand line to be easier accessible. Throw a flex mid or fairway and get yourself down to the basket. This basket is elevated, so that add's to the challenge. Heavy brush to the right, a few smaller trees in the fairway, and an elevated basket make this basket very tricky to birdie, or even par.

9. A little walk to get to this hole, but there's signs to get you there. This hole isn't particularly long, but it's a very interesting line to get to the basket. The majority of the fairway has a giant retention pond that's filled with duck weed that runs up almost to the basket, so you have to avoid that (this would be an easy spot to lose a disc). There's also some small trees to the left of this pond that make the FH line tricky. I think a well placed FH shot could get you parked under the basket, but it's a very risk/reward type shot. The backhand shot has a fence with a ton of heavy brush/tree's on the right. This starts halfway down the fairway and goes down to the basket. Because this hole is shorter, it requires a stable disc to avoid this rough area, but you also have to avoid throwing it into the retention pond as well. This hole was probably my favorite on the course because it could be played so many different ways, and for how difficult it was. I love a good risk/reward type hole.

10. This is another great hole. About 300 feet, through a tight wooded tunnel with a low ceiling, that opens up into an open field. There's a small hill in the last 30-40' that the basket is on top of, so it plays even longer. Getting par on this one can be difficult if you don't nail the line.

11. This is a wide open, longer hole that goes diagonal across the soccer field behind hole 10. It was very windy on the day I played, so that made it even more tricky. Let it rip and try to get down to the basket. The basket is within 100 feet of an entry way to the school, and there's a small hill that goes down to the road in front of the school behind the basket, so if you overthrow or air ball your putt, your disc could roll down onto the asphalt.

12. There's a bit of a walk to this hole. It's on the opposite side of the baseball field. It's another well designed hole. It plays uphill the whole way, and the basket is guarded by some well placed guardian trees. Another FH friendly hole with lots of trees/brush on the right hand side. After you finish this hole, go over to the short tee and throw all your putters and see if you can ace it. Lefty's will love this hole as well.
