Pros:
I normally don't like to grade a course in its infancy ( 2019 ) , but I also have to be fair to the travelers that come out of their way to play a course . Robert Newton Airpark is the newest of the courses in the I-64 corridor . Course Equipment for this 10 hole course : The natural tee pads that I found ( 1,2,4,5,6,7,& 8 ) have little ribbons down near the ground for signage , red for the shorts and white for the longs . The baskets are numbered Dynamics in good shape . There was no kiosk or online map around to guide you . Pulling into the far back of the lot , you will see one basket ( #5 ) but will have to walk down to the right , close to a small prop airfield used for skydiving . The first 2 holes run parallel to the airfield . There is a woods to your left to keep your drives down these narrow fairways straight . The baskets are tucked in close to the woods . I could not find flags for #3 but the basket is at the end of the woods , so I made a safari tee to the right of the #2 fairway and threw into #3 . . #s 4 & 5 play in the middle section of this woods They have tight technical fairways with some obstruction or turns in them The basket for 5 sits just beyond the woods where you will turn to your immediate right and enter the last portion of the course . The next 3 holes follow a cut out path back through the woods , where #8 is the last hole ( that I found , at least ) . I looked around for the other 2 before I realized that they still may be working on it . I walked the grounds and saw where there are still more paths and opportunities to make at least 4 more holes than the 8 that I saw . Not any elevation here , so it is easy on the knees .The course is a fast play , has some interesting turns to it and has a restaurant/bar close by . No signature holes , but still an okay play .
Cons:
#1 Navigation . No kiosk , no map , no arrows so unsure of where 9 & 10 are or will be , and flags must have been pulled up or run over by a mower for #3 . #2 Equipment : Little papers for tee markers and natural but sketchy areas to tee from . This can be ironed out at a later time . #3 Disc Risk :Medium Even though the holes are not long , the rough here is thick. Watch your drive carefully , #4 Challenge . The course is even short from the longs , and the course is flat and mostly straight . Make sure you spray your body down before playing here . The bugs can be bad . No amenities , so carry out what you carry in . Bathroom in the bar or near the campsite .
Other Thoughts:
I think that the idea behind this course is that it gives an extra something to do for the campers , that it may provide some exercise for the pilots wanting to stretch their legs during down time , and also introduce the bar/restaurant to the local population . I see possibilities of maybe organizing the locals into a doubles league during the week , maybe having a beer or dinner special , and increasing your sales for a Tuesday or Wednesday night . I hope to get back to this course next year to see the improvements , and stop in for a beer and sandwich .
