Does A Five Hole Course Really Need A Practice Basket? 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 20, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Salnave Park is a good sized park with restrooms, soccer and ball fields, children's play area and a now a junior disc golf course.

Salnave Park-Junior DGC is one of two of these junior disc golf courses in Cheney along with the five in nearby Spokane. All seven courses have the same great signs and Mach Series baskets. Salnave does have a practice basket, though. The parks are similar typical city neighborhood parks with scattered mature trees and lovely maintained grounds. They have been instituted to introduce youth and beginners to disc golf.

Salnave offers five baskets for your discing enjoyment. They are all little pitch and putt lengths of around 100' with the longest at 171'. The course is flat but with a nice smattering of mature trees for obstacles .

# 1 plays 129' with the right field fence of the ball field as OB on your left.

# 2 is 171' and has a somewhat confusing Mando left of some trees. I'm not sure if all the trees were included or not. It's not clear.

There is a wall near the # 2 tee area. If it was built especially to protect us disc golfers from those deadly soccer balls, then it might be overkill.

# 3 plays into park with a Mando right of some trees.

# 4 is 94' to the basket by the fence but the sign is missing.

# 5 is a tight 119' with a tight double Mando playing back towards your starting point

Cons:

Mandos are used for either safety purposes or to increase challenge by eliminating an obvious easy hyser route or r something. I don't see any safety issues here and I question whether you need to add any challenge to a n introductory beginner course?

The signs on all of these junior courses are not set facing the basket. Many are set perpendicular which I find confusing.

Beginner length and challenge might be a con for you but remember, theses junior courses were not designed with you in mind. They are designed to introduce youth and beginners to disc golf.

Grass tee pads but I have yet to witness any evidence of wear on any tee area.

For a course with only five holes, I found the navigation slightly confusing or not instinctive. I actually used the Udisc App here.

Other Thoughts:

I'm a big fan of these junior courses. I think they are a great concept. I might just have one question? Does a five hole course really need a practice basket? Having a practice basket here is akin to Dolly Parton getting breast implants. Probably not necessary.
