A Bit More of a Challenge Than the West Course! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 2, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Mossyrock Park is a nice sized, lovely park with boating and camping. There is a $10 day use charge but I guess it doesn't apply to us disc golfers. The lady at the gate just sent me through with no charge. The park was busy today and I did have to wait a couple times for campers meandering through.

When I played the West course about two years ago, there was a sign saying a second nine was a possibility if there was enough player usage. Well, there must be enough play, even considering the isolated location of the course. The course here is only convenient if you're driving across US-12 (commonly called the White Pass Highway) which stretches from I-5 east to Yakima.

The East course is very similar to the older West course. It starts at the same kiosk near the boat launch, has the same signage, same great professional scorecards and maps and the same baskets which read Mossyrock Park on one side and Tacoma Power MyTPU.Org on the other side. Between the scorecard map and the next tee signs, the course is easy to navigate. Each hole comes with a catchy little name such as "The Woods" or "Confidence Builder."

The course is slightly hilly, sometimes open, does have some rough to contend with and features two Mandos. There is a nice blend of straight lines and three right turning holes.

# 6 gives you a choice of a short 195' shot over some very tall (3-4') grasses or a longer fishhook throw going around the grass and trees.

# 7 is just 193' but features a very narrow double Mando which is only about 3'4 ' wide about 180' off the tee.

# 8 is a 395' Par 4 with a double Mando which wouldn't be much of a problem for most experienced golfers but there is a playground/dog park on the left which will attract a few discs.

The West course is a touch more challenging which I'm not certain was the best way to go here as today there were three other groups playing, none carrying more than a starter set of discs.

Cons:

I think the narrow double Mando on # 7 is a little too difficult for the clientele I see playing here. Also, maybe I missed it on the tee sign but I wasn't aware of it until I had already threw past it.

# 8 with the playground on the left is probably a problem, too. Inexperienced played will certainly hyser a few over that fence.

Other Thoughts:

# 4 tee box is close to the fish cleaning stand. Three or four fishermen were cleaning a whole mess of small trout here so there are fish to be had here as well as the possible birdies. Fish and birdies is not a combination I've written about on a review before!

The two courses here make for a nice recreational 18 for us. The park is welcoming to golfers. But because of it's isolated location, I wonder how many disc golfers they get. They obviously attract the fishing crowd and picnickers and swimmers and campers.
