Other Thoughts: Caldwell Park hosts a lengthy DGC on the eastern part of Oskaloosa, IA. The course plays in mostly heavily wooded, very hilly conditions with #5-7 playing on the edge of a large field. Lines are fair, for the most part with a good mix of open / technical. Some long transitions between holes probably at least double the walking distance. #7 to #8 is about 500'. Some transitions are odd as well. #3 finishes uphill with an exit behind into the large field. Follow to the left along the edge of the field for a while to an opening to go back into the timber for the #4 tee, which looking at a map is pretty close to the #3 tee. You tee for #8 on down and dogleg left. Then, it's back up the hill for #9 with that tee box a mere 20' from the #8 tee box. If you love elevation, this is your course. Lots of up and down, which can make for some cool shots (#11 comes to mind, tee from high to a pin in the lowlands). The low parts were pretty marshy when I played, especially #12, the finish on #17, and #18. Signage is laminated paper stapled to a post, could use an upgrade.I admit I'm a rec player and the hills had me winded. This course will test you with water carries, elevation, and walks between holes. Maybe a little too technical for me. Rather play Edmundson on the west side of town. Fix the signage, add some benches to add a little, but I probably won't play this one again.
