Pros:

Lake Springfield Park is a pretty fun course design that is nicely equipped. Most holes are grassy, moderately to lightly wooded and have some elevation change. A couple of very long par 5's and three par 4's give you a chance to air it out. The Prodigy targets are good and all tees are concrete (except the turf platform on hole 6) with signage.

I liked the first four hole loop. Holes 3, 4 and 6 were my favorite holes, the three steepest downhill runs with plenty of trees to prioritize shot shaping and placement. 15 and 16 have tough lines and tough pin locations. 7, 8, 12, 14 and 18 receive honorable mention for the fun factor. The short fairway to the island under the silo is a fun finisher on 18, and my only birdie on the first and only round I played.

Cons:

Some of the holes are pedestrian, a lot of open grass with sparse trees. Good filler.

A couple of transitions that could be marked better. A course map is nice to have. The layout is a bit choppy, crossing streets between holes several times. Walking hole to hole can leave you wandering at times.

Other Thoughts:

It's a fun course, and a decent difficulty level. The park is clean and well maintained. Facilities are good. Dry when I played, but a stream may be flowing in areas after wet weather.

I was 10 over (71) on the day. My nemesis, Prodigy baskets, take the blame for exacerbating my already poor putting skills.

This one is worth checking out. There are a handful of other good courses not too far away, and Springfield is a fun town to spend a weekend. Had good eats, music and a cool comedy club.

Pros:

Fun layout. Not too over-technical. Lots of room to make up for a errant throw or bad bounce.

Cons:

Long walks between holes and not signed well.

Other Thoughts:

New course, so improvements by volunteers are forthcoming. Would be nice to see Park Board get behind the sport a little more.
