Fair for a Park Course
6 Helpful / 0 Not
Pros: -Baskets OK
-A little more distance than a pitch n putt
-Some trees to work around
-Park upkeep is good
-Stays away from other park activity
Cons: -Not many signs left
-Natural tees
-Overgenerous Pars
-No benches / trashcans
-Little elevation to work with
Other Thoughts: Harrington Park DGC plays in the aforementioned Harrington Park on the NE corner of Nevada, IA (pronounced neh-vaaa-duh, unlike the state....) A little longer than your typical pitch n putt park course, this winds around the eastern half of the park with a couple of holes near the UP RR tracks. The course is missing much of its signage and still has natural tees. It does work around the sparse trees in the park, but he lines are pretty open. While the park upkeep is good, the course has gotten a little rough over the years. Rating would rise for me with updated signage, new baskets and concrete tees. I might play again, if in the area, but not one to go out of your way for.

Decent Town Course
2 Helpful / 0 Not
Pros: -Tee signs are reasonably helpful, and in decent condition
-Baskets are in good shape and caught well
-Course was in good shape and it appears to be maintained regularly
-Course flow was logical and pretty solid overall
-Though most shots are open, the trees can make things interesting. You need to shape your shot on most holes
-Very little risk of losing a disc
-Ace runs if you hit the right line
Cons: -No concrete tees. The natural pads aren't awful, but certainly not ideal
-Not too challenging. Basically a pitch and putt course
-Not too much variation overall. Most shots are fairly straight and the distances do not vary all that much
-Not much elevation change to speak of
-Pars are generous in some cases
-It sounds like flooding could be a problem, and I'm sure any sort of precipitation could make the course a bit difficult to play on.
Other Thoughts: I would consider this a pretty typical town course. I really do not have any huge complaints about this course. It was a quick and easy round, and there was some fun factor for me here. With that said, the lack of variation prevents this course from getting any higher of a rating. Overall, it's a pretty run of the mill course, and there's nothing wrong with that. If you're in town, I would suggest stopping by, but if you're just passing through the area, I would recommend you stop in Ames.

Beginner Course

Pros: Very easy course. Short holes and high pars. Good for a quick game or to show someone how to play. usually no one there. no chance of loosing a disc.
Cons: Gets boring if your looking for a challenge. Overall very flat. With no concrete tees the tee off locations have become quite rough and uneven, be careful not to trip. Train tracks are right next to it so if i train goes buy you cant talk to your fellow players.
Other Thoughts: good course to stop by if your traveling down highway 30, not to far off the highway and makes for a quick game to boost your self confidence

Pretty open

Pros: -Nice baskets
-Chances for aces, birdies
-Signs on all holes but #2
-Good for practicing putting and mid-range driving
-Located near I-35
-Not high traffic course and park is large so non discers should stay out of your way
-Good parking lot, garbage can
Cons: -Pars too high
-Not a lot of distance or variation
-Flooding can be a problem
-Very open
-Tees are natural, can be muddy and/or bumpy
-Can be very windy due to openness
Other Thoughts: If you're in the area have fun but don't go out of your way to play this course. Play the two awesome Ames courses only 10 miles away or the Des Moines ones to the South.

Pros: Very open course, little to no trees and is separate from the rest of the park. Beginner friendly.
Cons: Sign missing on hole 2. Due to the openness of the course, play on a windy day may require more skill.
Other Thoughts: Course seems as if it has been updated. Concrete tees would improve course play.

Wide open

Pros: Good baskets, Wide open area, Good for practice, Not much chance of losing a disc, Good variety
Cons: Sign missing on 2, Grass/Dirt/Mud tees many were too muddy and unusable.
Other Thoughts: This is a decent course, the addition of concrete tees would greatly improve it. The par for most holes seems high, a par 5 that is only 313'??

Typical park golf
5 Helpful / 1 Not
Pros: A fair number of trees to negotiate. Follows a logical route through the park and back to the parking lot. A good balance of right, left and straight holes with a variety of distances.
Cons: No elevation and fairly wide open.
Other Thoughts: The course is missing some tee signs and it's difficult to find some of the tees, being marked with timbers buried flush with the ground.
