Pros: Not just a now ace run course from a course built before a disc golf sized disc was made. Had some bathrooms via Porta Potties. There might have been some pit toilets but I did not see them. Had signage in yards unlike most modern courses that use Feet and concrete tee pads. the Concrete looked newer from my guess is the early 1990's or so when most then better made courses installed or had non grass teepads of some kind.
Cons: The baskets at the time were way outdated homemade things that needed replacing, looks like that is and or was happening. Shame people can't play on one of the older baskets that could have been left at the park as a very short practice hole for historical sake. one hole teepad was fairly close to a train line that if made today would have to be changed due to safety concerns but the basket goes away from the train line.
Other Thoughts: Respect this course for what it is, made before 1979. Can't wait to play the course when it has modern disc golf Baskets when I get back to Rapid City, that will make some of my putts I did originally null and void due to the baskets wide bottom disc cage. I do feel it gets overshadowed by the top level of play course for the area, Jackson park that is about 2 miles away. This probably makes this course an ideal beginner course 1 it is most likely not used, 2 it is a more open old style park course for most of it so loosing a disc in woods is hard, and is not long being it is city park course.

 Quick 9

Pros: -Good for a quick 9 if you're too busy to take time to play the longer, 18 hole Jackson
-Good for teaching beginners how to play disc golf
-Won't lose a disc
-Nice baskets
-Signs with distance and general map
-Nice cement tees
-Nice big trees as obstacles
Cons: -Could be busy but probably less than Jackson
-Is fairly short
-Not enough trees to make you shape your shots at all
-There are other people out on the course that aren't aware of disc golf and soccer fields nearby
-Could be quite windy as with most courses in SD
-Isn't always the cleanest.
-Omaha is the busy road right next to this course and it can be pretty loud with traffic noises.
Other Thoughts: I think this course has been updated since many of the reviews here. The signage is no longer in yards but in feet. The signs and pads are nice and it is a pleasant little 9 hole course in a city park. It is just off I-90 and not too far from Jackson Park so if you are in Rapid you might as well play it. I believe this to be one of the older courses in SD. Other courses you need to play if you are in the Black Hills are Pagent Hill in Custer, and Spearfish Canyon just South of Spearfish.

Pros: Quick and pretty easy; great if you just want to waste some time tossing discs
Generally pretty empty of other golfers
Big, mature trees
Cons: Short, even for a nine-hole course
The road on hole #1 can make you nervous your first couple of times
Lack of variety
Other Thoughts: As I said, a fine course to waste some time at, but a far better course is right down the road.

 quick fun 9

Pros: Fun little 9 hole course in the middle of Rapid City. Easy to finish 9 holes in about 25 minutes. Some great large old trees to make some challenges on most holes. Great safari possibilities could make for some great holes. Saw no one on th course so could easily air it out playing safari. Tees nice and large
Cons: Right next to major road, but it did not come into play. Out of bounds posts around, probably not really needed except to add a little more challenge. Very short course.
Other Thoughts: Fun course, but very short and average. Good use of small plot of land. Fun and if you need a quick break in a road trip, this course will do.

 Good starter course

Pros: Apparently the new baskets(I've not been there for a few years)
Although marked in yards the signage is not the type that can easily be removed and make you unsure of the distance.
Good open course with old mature trees that give one a feel for the game without intimidating them.
Short holes again are good for people just learning.
Due to Jackson being just down the road it's rarely if ever crowded.
Cons: Loud because of Omaha running parallel to course.
First hole is actually a bit close to the road and may give beginners some nervousness.
If you're experienced this course is a way too easy and short.
Some of the fairways are a bit to close together.
Other Thoughts: When you are in Rapid and want to avoid the crowds or show someone new the game this is the place to go without question. Now that they have new baskets I'm excited to take a trip back out to the Black Hills and play the first course I ever played again.

Pros: It is obvious that the course has been around for a while by the distance of holes, but none the less the course does have a feel to it that one cannot put down.Well Kept , and baskets are excellent. Good nine hole course to go play.
Other Thoughts: Good course that I will be back to play again. It lets you understand how long the sport has been around and how much respect players have for the courses.

Pros: * The course is laid out well.
* Distance markers and nice concrete tee pads.
* The newer baskets are a great addition. The old baskets were bent and well used. They made for some pretty frustrating putts.
* Fun natural obstacles (trees) and sloping terrain.
Cons: Nothing spectacular about Omaha but the fact it has been around since 1979.

With Omaha street on the border of the park it can be very loud at times.
Other Thoughts: This was the first park i played at. I have always had a sentimental liking for it.

For a quick round it is a good place to go. We used to go here and warm up than head on over to Jackson park.

Pros: There were large concrete tee pads at each hole which made it very easy to throw from.

There were signs at each tee pad. Holes 1-8 had wood posts in the ground while hole 9 had a metal sign. These signs had the hole distance and par on them. The wood poles also had a hook on them for you to hang your bag from.

I thought this course was very easy to navigate. The tee pad for the next hole was visible from the basket being played.

This park was very clean. Although there was a lack of garbage cans, there was no litter.

The park has very nice baskets. They do not look very old and are in very good condition.
Cons: W Omaha St. creates a lot of noise. If you like playing quiet courses, this would not be a course for you.

Hole #6 runs along the railroad tracks. There are O.B. markers between the fairway and the tracks, but there is not a fence to prevent anyone from crossing them.

The fairways seemed close together. Although they did not cross each other, the potential for an errant disc hitting someone is there.
Other Thoughts: The distance markers at the tees were in yards instead of feet.

Basketball court and soccer field in park as well.

The disc golf course is in a very nice park setting. The grass was nicely mowed. Most of the fairways are open, but there are many mature trees in the park.

 This Old Course

Pros: For a nine hole small park pitch and park course, the holes have good honest length in that you are not just wandering around a park making ace runs. There is good parking and, when I played there were porta potties available. The park was not busy and the course is placed away from the other park uses. It was between soccer fields and basketball courts. The tee boxes are marked with a pole that show distance and paved.
Cons: The course is bordered to the south with a train track as an out of bounds area. Having a hole that runs along a railroad track is ridiculously hazardous. Opposite the train tracks is a probably more dangerous busy street. The course layout was somewhat confusing, though not too terribly hard to catch on to. Wide open and flat, a small handful mature trees per hole, usually near the basket.
Other Thoughts: One of Omaha Park's biggest cons is that it is way too close to a nearby, top notch course, Jackson Park, which almost makes the location of these baskets obsolete. Seriously, there is great disc golf course just a few minutes down the road. It seemed odd to me that the pole markers measure the distance to the basket in yards rather than feet. Also, I totally appreciate playing in a course established way back in 1979.
