Lake Aurora Bible Camp Uses The L.A. Dodger Logo At Each Tee Pad! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 29, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

I didn't call ahead but just showed up announced. No problem. The course starts behind the main conference building. Holes 1 and 10 both tee off the patio. Both are downhill throws. # 1 is a 165' touch shot while # 10 is a 405' par 4. The pads are concrete and the tee signs show the route and the next tee. It really helps on this course to remember that next tee information as the course bibs and weaves through the camp. The baskets are DGA models with the hard to read red numbers.

The course is a recreational but does have a couple of holes that are longer such as # 10 @ 405', # 14 playing across a field is 390', # 15 is 505'.

I kinda liked # 10, the long downhill and # 11. # 11 is a low tunnel shot which climbs a small hill. # 17 and 18 both play through a jungle type area and both are basic hyser throws.

Cons:

Navigation is a little tricky in a couple of places. I had a difficult time finding # 3 ( I think)?

I also missed the # 16 tee pad.

I still believe the course is a little long for the campers.

The # 18 tee pad isn't lined up with the basket.

Other Thoughts:

It's very nice of the folks here at a Lake Aurora Christian Camp to be so welcoming to us disc golfers. I think it's on the east-west trip across the state. Must be a pretty good stop and shoot a round break. It's a solid fun throw and worth your time. Not a destination course and there are probably times when the course is no available which is a good reason for calling ahead. And like all the courses at churches and Christian camps, remember no bad words and drugs or alcohol. Have fun!

Lake Golf 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 16, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

-it's a disc golf course!

In the middle of nowhere.

Nice management

Obviously the course is designed for rec players enjoying the camp activities. With a little work /signage this could be a really great place

Cons:

Tiny concrete pads

Small navigation issues between holes- I had to use the udisc map which only had the first 9.

In a Christian center so lots of holes are over basks all courts or soccer fields. Could be unplayable if they are in use.

Other Thoughts:

Must call ahead for permission.

A relatively nice course for what it is. Some short holes and some that will let you air it out especially on the back 9

Hope 18 basket is gone.

Never found hole 10.

Could use some tape on the basket to direct you to next tee.

All the Shots 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 1, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

My friends and I would call this our home course and it is fun and you need to bring all the shots. The front nine is shorter and requires tactful tee shots while the back 9 offers more chances to grip and rip with some par 4 and length but the wind is a factor more here than the front 9. Signature hole to me is 4 where the right side of the big tree and camp house is OB, a branch to the left of the tee box makes it difficult to cut left to right and around the tree, and water also sits on the left. 18 is a heck of a challenge

Cons:

Sometimes cars are parked on the 5th tee box area in front and sports teams are using the soccer field on 6. Call ahead to check. Course navigation on some holes is challenge (1 and 5) and I think the basket for 18 is missing so it appears the 9th hole basket takes it's place

Other Thoughts:

This is a good course to work on your game but also will find challenges for some better players. Definetely call ahead to ask if the camp has a retreat or special function out of respect

Beautiful Setting, Pretty Good Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 1, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Hole 1 and hole 10 tees from a concrete area behind one of the main buildings. There is a sign stating the basic rules of the game, and that's it. No hole #s or distances for these holes, which is odd, because most of the other tees (Concrete also) have hole # and distance painted on them. (Some of the distances seem to be a little off though.) Hole 1 is a beautiful shot down a hill with a nice lake in the background. This course is slightly hilly and quite scenic. There is a good mix of longer holes and shorter holes and different looks. The course has a high fun factor. It reminded me of Turkey Lake a little. There are several benches and picnic tables to sit and rest on.

Cons:

The navigation is kind of tricky, I strongly encourage getting and using the map, or better yet playing with a local. The course plays through a multi-activity campground with a lot of other activities, which could lead to some potential conflicts. Hole 4, for instance, shoots down a narrow alley, then ducks behind a cabin. Plenty of trees for shot shaping, but also some man-made hazards.

Other Thoughts:

What an interesting course set in an absolutely gorgeous campground. Calling ahead is probably a good idea, as it is a private course, and will be closed if there is something big going on. If there is nothing going on, you may have the whole course to yourself! Very friendly people run this place, and it is very clean. Please be on your best behavior here, and don't litter!

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 9, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Maps, scorecards and even discs to borrow at the front desk. Discs for sale. Concrete tees. Friendly employees. Free of charge. Mados clearly marked on score card.

Cons:

You should call ahead first because course is not always available to the public. Tees 1 and 10 are not marked. I play them both from the large concrete pad at the start near a post with course instructions. Slight navigation challenge first time through.

Other Thoughts:

Very cool oak tree next to hole 2s tee, its worth going under for a minute. Mandos on 4 and 5. Holes 17 and 18 are tightly wooded.

Dusmann 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 3, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Easy to get find from Hwy 60. Called ahead to verify play was available. Upon arriving staff was very helpful with maps and hole locations. Course has a good flow to it, fairways were manicured. Front 9 played short and accurate and leads to the back 9 monster holes.

Cons:

Calling and verifying though easy still not a just get in your car and go to course. Small tee pads .

Other Thoughts:

I agree with previous reviews about holes 17 & 18 needing a little more trimming but very challenging. All in all loved playing the course and will be back.

Recent improvements 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 15, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The Lake Aurora course has been recently upgraded, and now has concrete tee boxes on all 18 holes! Beautiful hilly lakeside course. Nice mix of short and long, open and tight holes. Map is available at 1st tee at the back side of the cafeteria.

Cons:

As with any course development the improvements keep coming. The new tee boxes make a world of difference. Some course grooming on Safari holes 17 and 18 will open up more lanes. Distance/ Map placards at the tees will be of help to, but most holes are in line of site.

Other Thoughts:

Course notes:

1 and 10 play from the large bricked pad at the cafeteria, 1 is short straight down to the lake to the left of the giant Live Oak, 2 plays far out along the lake to the edge of the property boundary.

Mando on holes 4 and 5. Hole 4 must play to the left of the Oak. Hole five is a giant Anheiser and must play left of the light pole.

Safari holes 17 and 18 -it's a jungle out there and after playing all out in the open for most of the back 9 along the Orange groves it's all about placement for the next two holes! A dinky Heiser is needed to start off on both leading to a tight tunnel that rewards shot placement over power.

Lake Aurora Christian Camp is old Florida at it's best, clean, wooded, and beautiful. Please respect the camp by not bringing alcohol on the course and by being respectful, this will keep the course growing and open for the future.

Pro shop is coming along soon.

About an hour from Disney World this fun and challenging course is well worth the drive.

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 14, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very scenic holes around the lake, most baskets are line of site, given how you play OBs can have some challenging holes.

Cons:

Tee areas hard to locate, woods holes needed trimming, 18's basket missing?, couldn't find a couple of tee's, plays through common camp areas that could have people traffic.

Other Thoughts:

This is a camp course with nice lake views, I called ahead and got no answer so I chanced it and went out and wasn't questioned while I played. I tried the office to see about maps and scorecards but it was locked up. If you manage to get a hold of someone ahead of time and they have maps pick one up as it will help you locate the tees easier.

I parked near the office and the first basket you see is the practice basket, to find the first tee walk to the left side of the dining hall and you will see the rules sign. The tees are 4x8 patches of dead grass were I think it's been covered with sand and has some 12"x12" pavers to mark them. They could use a simple spray painted number to eliminate confusion. I couldn't find 1, 10, and 3's tees. For 1 and 10 I used the concrete next to the rules sign for 3 I teed near the dock on the waters edge. 3's basket had some damage from a fallen tree, and 18's I couldn't find so I played the path all the way to the open and to 9's basket for a kinda safari hole. Almost all other baskets are visible from the tee, or it's pretty obvious which way your headed. When you get to the playing field holes you throw toward the parking lot first then back across the field toward the back stop. Try playing the roads that follow as OB for more Challenge.

I found it hard to find the tees at first but once I realized what I was looking for it wasn't hard to navigate. If they have a map that would do wonders otherwise they should at least number the tees. I would have liked a couple more woods but it doesn't seem that they would receive the up keep that is needed. Its a great course for the campers and had a couple holes I really liked, 3 had the lake on the left with a big tree to go around on the right, 4 you had to go either around a big tree and chance hitting water or through the low clearance of the tree for a tough putt, and 16 with the road snaking through the fairway to a low canopy tree guarded basket.
