Course Gone 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 25, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

The single pro to this course is that I did not have to waste much gas getting off the interstate to see it was worthless.

Cons:

There are no longer baskets or objects to aim at. There are a bunch of flooded tee pads marked by broken pvc. It is too small to even make a 6 hole course.

Other Thoughts:

Do not bother. There is really nothing disc golf related going on there. Maybe there should be a way to take this course off of the site. Hope this stops anyone from wasting there time like I did.

Pros:

Waynesville is in a disc golf black hole. The closest course is Boswell Park in Lebanon, which is hardly worth walking across the street to play much less driving a half hour. The closest actual course (Miller Park in Jefferson City) is an hour and 1/2 drive. So you could argue that any course in this area, no matter how pathetic, would be a good thing.

Cons:

Where to start...well, the whole thing is on about one acre. Needless to say, the holes conflict with each other. If you take the anny route on hole # 1, you shoot right over the tee for # 2. # 2 shoots over the top of the tee for # 3 no matter how you play it. # 5 shoots right back at the tee for hole # 3 AND crosses the fairway for # 2 AND the tee for # 6 is in the putting circle. # 6 is set up with two trees the designer probably thought would be tough to thread the needle on, but just to the right of those is a wide-open hyzer route where you throw over the creek and let it fade back to the basket...easy as pie.
The putts were NOT easy as pie. The baskets are home made out of PVC pipe. The basket attachments are shallow, the chain is flimsy and no putt with any sort of velocity sticks. 2 of 10 putts I tried from outside of 10 ft that hit chains stuck. One actually came through the opening in the side of the basket attachment. The baskets seem to have been made for the dimensions of a Frisbee, and a Wizard will just slide right through the holes in the side. Plus basket # 3 was completely destroyed on one side and just hanging there, and several others were significantly damaged. It does not look like PVC pipe holds up very well as a disc golf basket.***UPDATE***As of Spring 2009 all of the baskets are either missing entirely or broken to the point of being useless.
Most of the shots are less than 200 ft. However, I didn't actually tee from the tees. What they did was mount the sign flat on the ground and then laid down a cut in half piece of PVC pipe to mark the front edge of the tee (don't foot fault on those!) That piece of PVC pipe has messed up the drainage, so none of the tees looked flat enough for me to risk throwing from. I would back up as far as I could to try to add a little something to the course. On some holes I could back up a long way, since no one else was there in the middle of the day on a beautiful Saturday (imagine that! A terrible course that no one plays...go figure!)

Other Thoughts:

All in all, Laughlin Park is in a tight race with Boswell Park as the most pathetic excuse for a disc golf course I've ever seen. It's too bad that they are the only courses to be found in the entire 200 miles between St. Louis and Springfield, MO. If just a simply bad course would open in this area, it would be a major improvement. Maybe someday Ozark Mountain will open to the public...Wish!***UPDATE***As of Fall 2009 there is a course 1/2 hour east of Waynesville. There is really no need for anyone to waste time checking out Laughlin Park anymore, as there really isn't even anything left to check out.
