Fun and Beautiful Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 1, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Spectacular views. Variety of shots. Good layout considering it's on a ski slope. A few awesome downhill shots

Cons:

You have to buy a lift pass to play. No tee pads. It's on a ski slope, so if you aren't in shape or used to the altitude it can be exhausting.

Hiking in the Mountains 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 20, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Nice- tee-signs that show a good layout of the hole and give you the distance of the hole.
-Baskets are in good shape. They are only single chained, but I didn't notice any spit-outs and they catch well.
-For a ski resort course, this course is very easy to navigate. There are signs attached to each basket pointing you in the direction you need to go. There are also well worn paths between most holes. You'll spend very little time looking for the next tee-pad.
-This course has a lot of elevation change on it. Most holes either incorporate uphill, downhill or side hill. The designer made good use of the elevation they have available.
-The course has a decent variety of distance on it ranging from about 120 to 555.
-Some of the baskets are placed on side hills, which leads to a little more challenging putts and approaches and opens the door to roll-aways if you don't have a good putt, which I like.
-Several holes make good use of the available trees to make some tunnel shots, and add a little risk/reward to the course.
-The rough on some of the holes will definitely punish you for a bad throw.
-Good view of the surrounding mountains.

Cons:

-The tee-pads on this course are terrible. They are basically rutted spots on the ground. Most have bad footing and could lead to injury. Since this is a seasonal course, I wasn't expecting concrete, but some work definitely needs to be done to make better, safer natural tee-pads on this course.
-The course has a lot of tall grass to lose discs in. I suggesting not playing alone and spotting for each other to avoid time looking for lost discs.
-It's $26 for a lift ticket to ride the lift up to the course, and hiking up to the course would be a very long, almost all up-hill hike.
-It is a hassle just getting up to the course. First, you have to park, wait for the shuttle at the bottom of the resort and then ride up the lift, it just seemed to take forever to actually get to the course.
-Several of the holes especially (16 and 18 come to mind) were almost all wide open and felt like filler holes.
-Hole 14 has a basket sunken into the ground. The basket is getting very overgrown with grass. The is the first course I've played with a sunken basket, and I wasn't a fan. It just felt gimmicky.
-After hole 18, there is a bit of hike back uphill to the chairlift
-While the course has a good variety of distance, most of the longer holes play significantly downhill and play a lot shorter than they say. Hole 17 (which is about 425 with a decent uphill throw) was the only hole on the course that felt super long.

Other Thoughts:

It is a fun course, but it is not worth the $26 lift ticket ride. There are much better courses that are cheaper or free. Your Beaver Creek lift ticket does work at Vail too as long as it is the same day. It will make for a long day, but if you are going to play this course, I suggest playing Adventure Ridge at Vail on the same day to make the price a little more bearable.

If you love elevation change like I do... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 27, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

*Spectacular views
*Mild to significant elevation changes on all holes
*Nothing too easy or too difficult
*Good facilities: free parking, cold water and bar/grill at the top.
*Small maps at each hole make it easy to play, especially when there is a blind shot like #6.
*Good signage at each basket showing where the next tee box is, as well as well worn trails to also guide you to the next hole.
*Even though there is a fee, if you pay an additional $6, so a total of $32, you get a lift ticket for the day and a $15 voucher for lunch from 11 - 2 at the bar/grill on top of the hill, which saves time going down the mountain to eat.
*Depending on preference, there are no concrete tee pads, just dirt, which I found to work well.
*Good use of trees, enough to make you alter throws but not enough be a problem.
*Good layout, only issue might be baskets #7 and #18 are closer together, but the rest is good.

Cons:

*Discs could be lost in the pine trees, as they catch them well.
*Pay to ride the chairlift up or hike 2,000 vertical feet to the 1st tee.
*Not a lot of garbages around.
*Frustration is likely for discs rolling downhill, as there is lots of room to roll.
*Basket 14 is nearly on the ground on the hillside, so putting from above it is challenging.
*Sharing spaces with other groups does slow things down, as there are hikers, bikers and kids to avoid at times, such as #9, at least for me.
*Bar/grill isn't cheap (cheapest burgers were $13.95 and cheapest sides were $4.95), so getting food voucher is beneficial.

Other Thoughts:

Overall an awesome experience! There are a couple of great downhill 'signature' holes which really up the fun factor, #7, #10 and #14. This is a great workout as well, especially if it is warm out.
Wish there was a water hazard, then it would be perfect, but this is as close to perfect as I have played in the more than 70 courses I have played.

DG at 10K 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 24, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Near Beaver Creek, Ski Lift takes you to first hole. Easy to find. Pro shop very helpful. Food and snacks available.

Cons:

Tall grasses in summer can be difficult to locate discs. Lots of elevation. Basically a pay-to-play (ski lift $)

Other Thoughts:

if you are in the area and want to throw a few holes its not a bad course, but I wouldnt go out of my way for it.

BCDGC 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 20, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

A beautiful course set atop the Beaver Creek ski resort. Stunning views of the Gore Range complement a wide variety of holes ranging from the short and easy #5 to the long and treacherous #13. The course is well maintained and you can always find other avid disc golfers. An excellent course!

Cons:

Unfortunately, you must buy a lift ticket to get to the top of the mountain unless you feel like walking up 3 miles. Tickets cost around $15, however its well worth the price for good DG. Unless you're used to the altitude this course is going to be a work out; walking up and down hills to get to the next hole is frequent but it's worth it!

Other Thoughts:

Lift service usually begins in mid-June and ends mid-Sept

Gotta love the Beav 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 5, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beautiful views. Good mix of technical holes and longer open holes. The course can be a little more up and down hiking for a flat-lander, but mountain folk don't seem to mind. I think it is the perfect mix of elevation changes to challenge intermediate players and test advanced players!

Cons:

Lift tickets cost money. If you can, try to get a lift ticket and play Beaver Creek, then cruise up to Vail mountain to make it more worth the $$$. (They use the same lift ticket system) As well... if you slip the lift operator a fiver or a ten-spot, they'll probably just let you on!

Not Exactly Roughin' It 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 20, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

2013 update: Moved rating to Very Good. Course has been in the same layout for a few years now and is slightly tamer than the 2009 layout. (a few of the most memorable holes are gone)

note: Many of the pictures submitted by myself are from an old layout. course is in a differenct configuration due to construction on the mountain.

Most if not all holes include mild to extreme elevation changes. Plenty of long holes which make use of mountain terrain. The downhills are giddily fun, the uphills present a big-arm challenge. Nothing too easy or short, and a few holes are quite tough. Beautiful views. Exceptional facilities; free parking @base of chairlift, cold water, clean bathrooms, bar/grill @top.

Cons:

Discs are easily hung up on pine trees that line most fairways. Losing sight of a wayward throw is highly unforgiving at this course. Access is limited - either pay to play and ride the chairlift up or hike 2,000 vertical feet to the 1st tee. Not enough short technical holes IMO. Teepads are marked but are in bad shape and thus players tend to adopt their own spot (again not cool IMO)

Other Thoughts:

Overall an exciting and exhausting DG experience. There are a couple of great downhill 'signature' holes which really up the fun factor. For those who appreciate a hike while they golf this course is perfect. This course is shared by bikers and hikers, has no on-course trash cans, intrusion into other fairways is minimal.
