In it for the elevation
10 Helpful / 0 Not
Pros: -Great use of the elevation in the park
-Decent Baskets
-Unique Tee signs (w/Course Map on each)
-Trees add complexity to lines on many holes
-Good mix of open/guarded by trees, long/short
-Small streams, but no real water hazards
-Park upkeep is good, course stays away from most other activities
Cons: -Natural tees
-No benches / trashcans
-Throw over a walking path on #3, over a road on #6
Other Thoughts: Waukon DGC is located in a large park on the south end of Waukon, IA. The course winds around the pool area and near the several playground areas of the park (although none are really in play). The park is quite hilly and the course makes use of that quite a bit. #1 is a long shot over a gentle valley, #2 down near a small stream, #3 over another stream and walking trail (good multiple lines here), #4 is guarded by trees, #5 is up toward a small playground, #6 is over a sharp valley with dome large trees guarding, #7 is guarded by trees and #8 and #9 are mostly open. Pars are fair for the rec player, a pro would find this course a little short. The elevation and tree interest along with multiple lines on many holes added to the rating for me. Adding concrete tee pads along with benches/trashcans would add more. A fun 9 hole course tucked in this far NE Iowa town. Would definitely play again, if in the area.

Great Variety Through Nine Holes

Pros: Each hole has a tee sign. All nine holes have the course map on the tee sign (they are identical).
Distances range from around 260-440ft.
Great use of trees as obstacles.
May uphill/downhill varieties of shots included.
Navigation from hole to hole was really easy.
Cons: No actual tee pads.
play close to some playgrounds and shelter areas as points
Three of the nine hole signs don't tell you distance to the pin.
Other Thoughts: This is my favorite nine hole course in NE Iowa... and I think is my favorite nine hole course that I have ever played. Even with no tee pads, the wide variety of shots needed here and the varying distances make it a very unique place to play that I have never seen be overcrowded.
Definitely worth the stop!

Waukon Course

Pros: I have only played two courses, but this is my favorite. Starts off with a nice long hole across a dip and has a nice mix of short and longer holes. Chance of ace on hole 2,5 and 9. Good luck making an ace on hole 6! Have driven those holes multiple times but not good enough yet. Good mixture of open and closed fareways and plenty of trees to interfere with your disc.
Cons: Kind of short. Only about 45 minutes to play a round but still very fun.
Other Thoughts: Best course that I have played, even though I've only played two!

Just Passing Through...
2 Helpful / 0 Not
Pros: - Good variety of shots required, plus a bit of a mix between open and wooded shots.
- Good distances on holes.
- Lots of other park amenities available.
Cons: - Hole 1 sign missing (with no indication of which basket you are throwing at...a map would have been VERY helpful).
- Many/most of the baskets did not have their numbers anywhere on them...making it a little difficult to know if you were playing to the right basket.
Other Thoughts: I had a lot of fun playing this course, and I'd love to play it again! If I hadn't found a group of locals teeing off on Hole 4 though while I was looking for Hole 1, I would have had no idea where I was going once I got out of the parking lot.

Another good NE Iowa 9 hole
Pros: Some nice holes ranging from 200-400 ft and also some technical shots through some wooded areas. Very nice park area with bathrooms. Good baskets.
Cons: Grass tee boxes, OB roads come pretty close to some holes. Only 9 holes.
Other Thoughts: Pay attention to the distance on the signs, at some points you just have to gauge your toss from that rather than seeing the pin (or you may aim at the wrong pin if you don't pay attention).

Waukon Course

Pros: Elevation Change. Not too short, not too long. Good mix of open and wooded holes. Bathrooms through out the course. Great Park.
Cons: Only 9 Holes. Natural tees make starting point unclear.
Other Thoughts: The course is brand new some time will tell.
