Good nine hole layout

Pros: Shot selection varies from hole to hole.
Course is all marked very well.
Have the occassional tournament here.
Cons: Water can come into play (could be a pro)
Bug Spray definitely recommended.
Other Thoughts: Nice course in a small town setting. Never seems to be too busy. Worth a trip. I hope to get back some time soon and play this and the other course in town on the same day!

Course

Pros: I like the course due to its long shots and gives you a decent snout of obstacle to work around and also may have to throw difficult shots which make it better. Just a solid made course
Cons: The pads could be longer. On the accouple par 4 and 5 holes maybe move them down a par and add some more obstacles to make it more of a challenge

Pros: Well taken care of little park.
Good tees and baskets.
I found this course to be cute and polite.
Easy to find, we spotted it from the Dairy Queen.
Cons: If it were my daily player I am sure I would have a beef or two, but as someone passing through from Iowa City to St. Paul and getting some lunch, it was perfect.
Other Thoughts: This was the second course we played on our summer vacation. This park was a pleasant surprise. Met a friendly local and my wife enjoyed the flower gardens. You can do better than that Dairy Queen for lunch.

Very FUN!!!

Pros: Well mowed, awesome baskets and decent tee pads. great flow with perfect amount of discing traffic, bike trail has attractive athletes on it usually, but rarely affects course play, Several ace opportunities all of which would be considered respect-worthy if accomplished. NICE SIGNS!!! beautiful and simple park.
Cons: Not much shot variety needed here, just not long enough, i only threw hard five times each round and the most strategy you'll need to consider are 2 very slightly rightward bending fairways and one picturesque 200' straight shot with a 15' wide window with a 15' high ceiling about 35' from the basket. not many obstacles other than holes bordered on one side by dense trees but open on the other side. SUcks its only 9 holes
Other Thoughts: Very fun way to spend 30 minutes but playing will not develop your game as much as a course which demands far more accuracy than Riverside DGC does. If they figured out a way to add 9 longer wooded holes with narrow, drudgerous, slaloming fairways- then this would be a 4.5 based on its health and essence.

disc golf and more

Pros: Very well kept course that is great for novice players. Baskets are well marked and easy to find. There is a friendly disc community here too, many times I have picked up rounds with strangers just getting into the hobby.
Cons: Short course for more experienced players. I would think a good player could two shot each hole. Not much for elevation except hole 5 has a nice incline. Others have mentioned the ball diamonds early summer are a hassle. After July 4th the diamonds are not in use anymore.
Other Thoughts: My title says .....and more. Charles City has a kayaking course that is quite fun to go down. So if your looking for a day of it, toss a few disc then head to the kayaking course a few blocks away and go down it with your tubes and beverage of choice.

Clear the air (and the ballfields)

Pros: Beginner Friendly
Easy variety for practice
Easy on the eyes
Orange baskets with numbers help see pins
Soccer field is great for throwing practice
Grass is kept well.
Cons: Tee pads are a little short
Par is marked for rec players (I play all par 3's instead)
Activities on ballfields late in early summer are a hazard and obstruct holes 4-7
Holes 1&2 are too close to play two groups at once.
Parking on holes 3&5 is common
Holes 3 & 7 are hard to find first time playing through.
Lack of trash cans around course leads to litter.
The only trash cans are on a walking path by 1&2 and by the ball diamonds on 5-7 but, you have to go out of your way to get to them.
Other Thoughts: The original review talking about four holes is before they made the new course. The baskets are all nice and in perfect shape. I would recommend this quaint piece of Iowa to families and people looking for a new hobby or sport. For those looking for a challenge, try elsewhere.

first time at Charles City

Pros: Well maintained. Challenging yet fun course to play. Most holes can be made in 3 by a skilled player.
Cons: Par count on holes are a little high. Most holes should be par 3 or 4. Construction on hole 5 made us skip it, but the hole looks like it should be fun.

Pros: Some fun little holes. #3 - tunnel, #5 - upshot, & #7 - blind dogleg.
Cons: Holes #1 play very close together. You have to wait for others to play through.
Other Thoughts: Great little rec course that can be played/enjoyed by any level of player. Although the course will play easy for those w/ experience, the variety of holes allows for practice of many types of throws.

Better than the 4 hole course

Pros: Small holes and easy pars throughout the course. Make it a nice beginner course.
Cons: Pars are either 4 or 5 throughout and make the course rather easy. First time playing birdie'd every hole. If your more experienced play one less than the par.
Other Thoughts: Good beginner course. There should be expert pars and amateur pars. Nice course though right next to the river not many hazards

Meh

Pros: ***I have not played the new layout, I'll make it through one of these days to play the course and update my review***
Scenery. Quaint little, aptly named "riverside" park.
Amenities. Soccer fields, walking trails, and small parking area.
Access. A short jaunt off the freeway for a very quick round.
Beginner friendly. Since the water doesn't really come into play, the relatively simple lines and short holes make this an Ok place to learn and practice approaches and putts.
Safari. A rather large area of the park is not used and could provide an opportunity to create a decent safari round if so desired.
Elevation. The single small hill in the middle of the course provides some slight interest to this course.
Cons: Tees. There are none, make it up as you go along.
Baskets. Homemade, look rather interesting and function ok as a place to practice, providing a target to aim at but don't catch very well, the chain assembly seems too large for the basket, they were all leaning and bent one way or another.
Navigation. Each basket has a number on it, and there's only 4 of them so I guess it's not terribly difficult, but there's no signage or direction to speak of.
Distance. If you play from one basket to the next it's a very short course, a putter only round is sufficient, this could be remedied if you decide to go safari.
Other Thoughts: Not worth the stop unless you're looking for a very quick course or a place with targets to practice approaches and putts.
