Pros: At the time it was the only thing available but it was a decent course. Had some fun holes and good shade.
Cons: Felt a bit crammed
Other Thoughts: I returned to Bend after 3 years to find the course closed but Pine Nursery is a reasonable (but flat) alternative. I'm not sure why there are so few courses in this area, the potential is huge.

Central Oregon Community College is located in the Cascade Forest of Bend, Oregon. This nine hole course weaves through an alpine forest and incorporates elevation and rock outcroppings, along with stunning views of the Cascade Mountains. Majority of holes on the course give multiple approaches to the baskets, allowing for more variation for the locals. Holes range from around 200 - 375 feet and provide much challenge and a little luck to hit the proper lines and score well. Tee pads have been installed and are good enough for this caliber of course, and the Mach II's are in excellent shape. Locals are very friendly and willing to help with navigation issues.

Favorite Hole(s): Original Hole #1
Once hole one is found navigation doesn't seem to be as much of a problem. However, there is no kiosk, tee signs, or numbers on any basket so first timers will struggle. Try to print off a map or look for one of the friendly locals to follow or even join.

When I played the course they were missing benches and garbage cans and due to large crowds on the course, considering it is located on a college campus and is the only one around for miles, can look like a garbage dump. And since it is so popular, often times you will find yourself standing around waiting for large groups in front of you to finish up. Please be courteous and leave the course cleaner than you found it!
Other Thoughts:
Overall, it is a wonderful course to learn on or to bring a group of friends to so they can learn this great game. I was very pleased with the challenging layout but felt that the course could have offered a lot more considering how much beautiful land surrounds COCC. I hope that one day the college and students/locals can work together to make yet another amazing course in this beautiful state. I enjoyed my time here but it left me wanting more...

Pros: - semi difficult shots
- locals are very nice
- elevation changes
- mach 3 baskets
Cons: - Not well mapped
- no tee signs
- lots of trees
Other Thoughts: New info on hole 1. Its not by the gym or tennis courts or track. It starts in the parking lot after all of those places about 25 ft off of the lot. Its an easy course to play but fun to bring new people to. Its on the c.o.c.c jr. college so it nice and you catch glimpses of the cascades along the course. Bring H2o its up and down hills. Hopefully tee signs and another 9 holes go in.

Pros: Although all holes were removed at the time, my wife and I found all the tee's and pin locations (sleeves for pins) with no problem. Very easy to navigate. Nice layout with some challenge. A little repetitive.
Cons: This course was pulled at the time. Very strict campus!
Other Thoughts: This course now starts just west of the track field, not the tennis courts.

Pros: Nice open ponderosa pine forest, just the right amount of trees to make a challenge but not impossible. Also love that puff of dust when disc lands, as noted in another review.
Cons: Not many markings for holes.
Other Thoughts: Cute town too.

Pros: Great changes in elevation
Good variety of shots
Nice peaceful course
Cons: No course maps
No indication of starting point
Dirt/sandbox teepads
A few blind holes
Other Thoughts: It said on this site that maps were available at the athletics office/gym. I scoured the place, no such luck. Begin at the far side of the Library parking lot. There is no sign or postings indicating this is the start. Luckily, this course is fairly easy to follow, and once you play it once, it has a good flow. There are lots of elevation changes in this course, adding to the challenge. As stated in previous reviews, this course will chew up your plastic: it is a very rocky course. There are a few blind holes (#2 doglegs to the right over a hill, and #8 you shoot over a hill, hole slightly to the left). This course gets quite a lot of play, as it is the only one in Bend. IMHO, this is a very fun course, challenging, you can use your full arsenal of shot selection here.
I was surprised by the amount of litter on the course, especially after reading previous reviews of how the college was upset. Come on, people, pack-in-pack-out, or you're going to risk losing this course again!
Overall a very fun course, just wish it was maintained better, by both the course owners and the players (PICK UP YOUR LITTER).

Pros: Fairly challenging course layout for a small 9-holer with limited space.
Distance ranging from 200-380'.
Good variance in elevation.
Baskets were very good.
Cons: Numerous holes feel quite luck based, forcing you to throw into a wall of trees.
Rocks throughout the course will tear your discs up.
Numerous navigation issues, hard to find hole one, absolutely nothing indicating the start of the course, no tee signs, hole numbers or basket numbers.
No benches or trash cans.
Course is closed several months out of the year between issues of fire danger and politics with the college.
Uneven tee pads.
Other Thoughts: COCC is the sad tale of a course that could always use a little help, it has a number of cosmetic issues from the rocks (not much to do about that) to the lack of navigational aids and amenities like trash cans or benches. Some of the holes are memorable but the college changed the course around removing signature hole 1 which was a real shame. The course is also closed from time to time for various reasons. The only thing that makes the course worth visiting is fact that it does offer some reasonable challenge, there's plenty of wind and a number of long holes with numerous trees. With a little work and some course improvements it could be a fun 3 star 9 hole course.

Pros: * Fun hole layout
* Relatively short
* Easy to navigate
* Still a challenge even though I've played it probably 250+ times (the only course in town...)
Cons: * CROWDED- being the only basket course in Bend, it gets very crowded on summer afternoons/evenings. Plus, since its the only course, you have this wide spectrum of players, from the never-played-before family of four, to the super-group of 8 hucksters playing doubles, to the group of trailer trash that decided to take a break from making meth.
*No hole signs
*The "concrete" tees are really pavers, and not all are even, and they can be a little slick when it rains (which doesn't happen all that much in the High Desert) ...
*Its only 9-holes
*Recent course changes have altered three of the better holes, all for the worse, IMO
*On much of the course, you can see undeveloped land that would make great holes, for a full 18, and you can't wrap your head around why the college wouldn't just make more holes...
Other Thoughts: You know how at some courses, you can tell someone (the local disc club, the park management, the owner, etc) really cares for it... well its the opposite here. It seems as though the college would be just fine if the course were to go away, and with good reason.

The course is often crowded and litter filled. The players take up parking spots, which are a precious commodity on any college campus. And some unsavory characters are very blatant with their shady behavior. The course brings nothing but headaches for the college, and it shows in their quickness in closing the course at the first "HIGH" fire warning, and keeping it closed for as long as possible (I recently went up to play after a freak early october snow, and the course was still closed due to "extreme fire danger", regardless that much of the course was under 2 inches of snow)

And some other reviewer stated they're building a back 9.... nope, sorry. They originally wanted to, that's why the course map has 18 mapped out, but for some reason or another, only 9 got built, and the college soon realized that may have been a mistake. Yes, there are 9 with objects as baskets and natural tee's, but its just a step above walking around the woods and picking a tree to throw at.

The real shame is the course itself is a GREAT beginner/intermediate course, that if it didn't have the ugly situation surrounding it, it would easily get another disc rating from me, and if it had a full 18, i might even give it a 4....

I figured I might as well add something about how the course plays. First, park in the NW (far right upon entering the lot) corner of the lot right after the library. First tee is just NW of that corner....

Hole 1: Short, but significant up hill. Either a right or left fairway to a guarded pin. (Warning, watch for drives off of 9 to the basket which is just to the right of #1 tee)

Hole 2: Short dogleg right. Deal with trees 10 ft off the dead center of the tee.

Hole 3: Long, slight downhill. Tree right off the right corner of tee, and track and beyond is OB.

Hole 4: Medium, downhill with a couple of tree "walls" to deal with, including a guarded pin.

Hole 5: Long, flat, comparatively open for the course.

Hole 6: Long, uphill. One tree wall at about 220 or so, after that its open to a guarded pin.

Hole 7: Short, uphill. One gnarly, beaten juniper smack dab in the middle of the perfect flight path.

Hole 8: Long, uphill. One of the only blind shots on the course. Beware, the pin is right on the edge of a gradual, long hill. Roll-aways punished....

Hole 9: Short, downhill. Other than getting through the trees that the pin is set in, and avoiding players coming up #1 fairway, its a pretty easy putter Ace run.

Even though I have my gripes about the situation surrounding the course, I still think the course itself is a fun challenge.

Pros: It is in town so it is easy to get to. It is a quick 18 holes.
Cons: The hole design on a few holes is not good. There is no good way to play them through the trees unless you get lucky. Gets shut down in Summer due to "fire hazard", but I think it is because so many people leave their trash out there. That pisses me off!
Other Thoughts: I play here a lot and enjoy it!
