Pros:
Four DISCatcher baskets playing around the athletic fields to create a six hole layout.
Hole 2 plays around or through a tunnel created by an electrical tower. (If the layout on uDisc is correct.)
The grass is well kept.
Cons:
Like other school courses, this course is not open during school hours or school events.
The layout I played had six holes. Holes 4 & 5 share a basket, creating an awkward transition.
Holes 1 & 6 also share a basket, but without the awkward transition.
Only Holes 1, 4, & 5 have tee signs. Hole 4's tee sign is almost completely consumed by foliage as the entire tee area was completely overgrown. For a course that uses natural tees, it is awkward to be missing half of the tee signs, and for one of the tee signs that does exist, to be swallowed by chest high grass.
Not very many obstacles on the course outside of the electrical tower on Hole 2 and the dugout fence on Hole 5.
The transitions between holes were longer than the holes themselves, on a course that is essentially just 4 baskets in a field.
Other Thoughts:
Westminster Catawba Christian School has four baskets, and could be a nifty little pitch & putt course, but is plagued by a lack of signage and an awkwardly designed layout. The course could have easily completed multiple circles around the fields clockwise then counter-counter clockwise to create a longer nine hole, more varied layout. If following the layout on uDisc, Hole 4 plays to the basket, then you walk away from the basket and throw back to it for Hole 5 for a 78 ace run'. (Hole 4 on the uDisc layout does not appear to be listed on the DGCR layout.)
I am torn on what to rate WCCS. It either deserves a 0.0 because it is a glorified practice area with limited tee markers or a 0.5 because compared to something like the "WCCS Lower School", formerly known as Rosewood Elementary, this "course" is at least has baskets not falling apart, is playing because it isn't surrounded by a 6 foot tall chain link fence, and the grass has been mowed sometime this year. For now I am going to stick with the 0.0 rating, but would bump the rating up if any sort of tee markers of any sort were installed. It could get an even higher rating though, by just tweaking the design of the layout too, without really having to move the baskets. I think tweaks in this vein would also help promote the sport better for the students, as opposed to what they currently have.
