Great place for your 1st ever round
Pros: This older course designed for beginners or for practice plays in the open meadow shown on the map for the other course here. (The other course plays in a circle around the meadow, but in the woods.) This is great course to introduce somebody to the game of disc golf. The setting is serene and scenic. The holes are mostly open but do offer a few isolated obstacles (trees, a barn, and some slight elevation). The first few holes are pretty short but each hole gets a little longer as it goes. There is no danger of beginners losing discs here. There are 2 signs for every hole- one to mark the tee area and another down by the basket showing which one to throw towards.
Experienced players will view this as a par 18 with many ace runs. This is probably not a course that will make anyone's wishlist, but it was a nice little bonus after I played the other course.
Cons: The tees are natural, and a couple of the signs were missing, so I just had to use my best judgment and make up a couple tees. The baskets are not the best (In-Step) but they get the job done. (It does make a distinction from the other course that uses yellow Discatchers as the two courses come very close to each other in spots.)
This is not a course that you will want to play again and again. (The good news is there is another more challenging course right there.)
Other Thoughts: If you play the other course first you will see this one out in the open as you walk from 2 to 3. To get straight here from the parking lot, just walk up the wide gravel trail towards the barn. To get to the parking area, pass all the buildings, pass the lake, and you will see an unmarked gravel lot on the right. This lot is for hikers and disc golfers.
My wife doesn't really like to play disc golf, she just usually walks with me and spots, but she actually played this course because it was short and there was plenty of room for errant throws.
Bonus fact- the movie Dirty Dancing was filmed at the Mountain Lake area.
