Pros: Easy to find
Spread out well
Good for beginners like me to really learn how to throw and see how it flies without worrying about trees or obstacles
Cons: Gets a little muddy/soggy in the mornings
Not much challenge if you get good distance on your drives

  Nice for a Newbie

Pros: I need to say that I am a newbie at the sport. I have only been playing for a few months. With that being said this is not a bad course if you are new because there are very few obstacles or people around, at least there wasn't this morning.

This actually is a great course if you want to practice a particular shot as I did this morning. My forehand sucks so it was great for me to throw that shot through the nine holes.

Another nice thing about this course is that it's fast. I was in and out in less than an hour. If you have a hour or so to kill and you are in the area it's worth the trip.

The concrete tee pads are in great shape and the maps are awesome! Left half is an actual photograph from the tee and the right side is the map of the course. Thank you Elk Grove!!

Cons: If you are a veteran of the sport I wouldn't play here. There are no trees, no mando's and no obstacles outside of the occasional person walking their dog.

I think it would be a better course if the baskets weren't permanent. There are a few trees and moving the baskets occasionally would be more of an enticement to play. The back 1/2 of the 9 is just dirt and they certainly could plant trees like Marconi has done lately.
Other Thoughts: A few great things about the course. It's a pretty course and seems to be clean and well kept. There are bathrooms that are very clean (thank you Elk Grove!) with soap and running water. I also spotted water fountains throughout the course. I didn't need it so I don't know if they actually work but it was nice to see.

If you are going to go I would go in the morning during the summer months because there is basically no shade.

  Great for practice

Pros: Open fairways good for practice drives. Never crowded.
Cons: Out in the open. Wear a hat or play early mornings.
Other Thoughts: This is where you should hone your driving skills as well as practice with your putter. Also good for mid-range tee off practice.

1) Decent size teepads
2) Bathroom on site by the parking lot
3) Great variety of lengths from 200-400 feet
4) Signs on each hole, tell you what hole you're on and the direction of the next hole
5) The flow of the course, basket of last hole near the teepad of next hole, was pretty fluid
6) Practice basket near first hole
1) Vegetation can hide discs well, albeit a wide open area
2) Holes 4 and 7 are in the general direction of the sidewalk/street, so you must be careful of your throws
Other Thoughts:
The Park/Rec district didn't finish mowing the lawn of the course, which led to extra time being spent looking for discs, even though they were being tracked. Easy to find since it's right down the street from Elk Grove High school. There are a few walkways that run through the course, so be careful of park pedestrians. More of a beginner to slightly knowledgeable beginner course. Very few obstacles, trees come into play on 2, 3 and 8.

Pros: Long, open drives - good for practice.
A few Ace-able holes.
Nice tees and new baskets.
Cons: Not much variation, after hole 3 it gets pretty tedious.
People walking around could get hit by errant shots.
Other Thoughts: Fun to work on long drives.

11 holes if you start on #3.

Pros: You can play 11 holes by starting at hole #3 by the community center in the center of the park. Tee off from one of the many alternate tee markings in the parking lot to the south of the center and aim for basket #3. Then play holes 4,5,6,7,8 and 9. As you walk towards hole #1, there is a 4x4 partially buried next to the old horse hitching post. Tee off from there aiming at the practice basket. Then continue to shoot holes, 1,2 and finish with hole #3.

Holes 1, 2, 3 and 8 have permanently marked alternate tee pads on the concrete walkway or asphalt. The alternate tee pad for hole #1 is on the walkway near the practice basket, #2 is behind the actual tee pad on the concrete walk way, #3 is in the parking lot near the community center and #8 is on the asphalt path south of the permanent tee pad.

Cons: Few obstacles unless alternate tee are used.
Other Thoughts: Elk Grove Chainrackers DG Club plays a monthly tournament on the second Saturday of each month that offers 27 holes. Alternate tee pads are marked permanently on some holes, and ad hock for tournament play on others.

 Relaxing Round

Pros: -Practice Basket
-Not Crowded
-Well Groomed Park
Cons: -Short Holes
-Not Many Obstacles
Other Thoughts: I really enjoyed this little course. It is the perfect course to bring the family or for beginners. There are a few longer holes, but mostly the holes are open and short. The park is very nice and the grass is perfect. They did the the best they could with the few trees that are there. Hole nine ends at the beginning, so playing multiple rounds is easy.

Pros: - A reasonable mix of distances
- Baskets were all in decent shape
- Grippy teepads
- Well kempt grounds
Cons: The design of the course has done a great job of avoiding all of the trees or any other obstacles that might have added interest!*

*There aren't all that many obstacles at the park available to use. Even so, any trees on this course are either 1) near or behind the tee pad or 2) right near the basket thus missing out on the opportunity to force players to shape their shots at all.
Other Thoughts: Based on the current rating here, I was expecting a LOT more out of this course. Enjoy this course to practice drives and distance control, but you won't find much more than that.

Pros: -Perfect course to learn the game

-Concrete Tees

-Practice Basket (as quite a few courses throughout the region don't)

-Large grass fields to warm up or practice driving. There is a baseball large field next to Hole #1, if that is being used, there are plenty of other large grass fields throughout the park.

-The DGA Mach 3 Baskets are nice and in good condition. The center tape has just been replaced (which I like).

-Limited Crowds

-Plenty of paved parking at Hole #1.

-Elk Grove Park is a FREE nice clean park
Cons: -There are dirt or gravel roads near or going through quite a few of the holes. You sometimes have to wait for people walking the park to pass by.

-Hole #1 and #8 - if you don't make it over the gravel roads, your discs will be landing in the rocks - as a result, you might want to only throw champion or star plastic discs in these holes.

-The Tees are too thin.

-Not too many trees / obstacles.

-Very little elevation change in the holes. A few of them you are up on a small mount, but that is it.

-If the park has large event on a weekend or holiday or sports practice, part or all of the course will be closed (does not happen often however).

-All the holes are backhand. Wish there at least a few forearm holes.

-Most holes to have a sign, but many are cracked.
Only 1 pin placement per hole - the course it always the same.

Short holes - the average is 250 feet.
Other Thoughts: So I do have more negative comments that positive ones, but this is a nice simple course in overall good condition. It is the perfect learning or practicing course. I would only play the course if you were local and wanted to do just that. It is not worth driving out of your way.

Pros: If you are a beginner, great place to learn to throw, easy access, and lotsa parking. It's a very nice park, reasonable distances for the holes
Cons: If your an experienced player, you tend to get bored. Not really any challenge of any type, broken signs
Other Thoughts: bring new players or kids
