Quick Ups and Downs
7 Helpful / 0 Not
Pros: -Decent Baskets
-Good Signage
-Concrete pads
-Good use of park topography
-Blind shots on #1, #5, #6 and #9
-Quick Play
Cons: -Park Road in play on #1, #2, #6, #7, #8 and #9
-Walking path in play on #4
-Parking area behind #8 baskets in play
-Overly generous Pars (some might call that a pro)
Other Thoughts: Hills Park hosts a quick 9 hole DGC in the northern part of Sheldon, IA (Where I think they missed a prime marketing slogan of "Find Your Spot in Sheldon") The park has a couple of hills to provide the name. A small ridge runs near the front which includes the #1 basket, about 10' up from the flatness of the rest of the park. #5 is on top of the big hill, a steep sided mound about 20' up with a decent landing area. You might want to have a spotter up top on that one. #6 tees back down to the flat through a couple of narrow lines with a sharp left. The rest of the course is flat, working around the park, with a fair amount of trees to work around. #3 is guarded by a couple of large trees. #9 is out of view behind another couple of trees. The road is in play on 2/3 of the holes and the walking path is in play on #4. There are some camping spots that are left of #7, but not really in play. The shot up to #5 is a bit of a hike up for us old and out of shape guys, but pretty cool to throw way up and blind. #6 is a bit of a poke and hope to get back down. The openings are narrow and there is a sharp left turn at the bottom. Par is overly generous at 35 for less than 2000', but gives the amateur an ego boost. A quick play, available for many skill levels, a better than average park course mostly for working in the hills of Hills Park. I enjoyed my round and will play again, if in the area.

Pros: this course is really pretty clean and well maintained. very nice new baskets. i would love to see the city put more money into the development of this course into an 18 hole course. it could be very nice. pretty good for beginners and to take the kids with you to learn the sport.
Cons: very short, you could play all 9 in 20 minutes. there is some technical shots, but use a spotter as you may end up owning a car window. there is a road that goes straight thru it. This is also in a city playground park, so it is crowded with non-frolfers.
Other Thoughts: I would love for this to be expanded and given its rightful due.
