Pine Grove - There's Potential 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 2, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great terrain. Good elevation change and use of it throughout the course. Moderately wooded with some more open areas. Rough is unforgiving in most areas. Good distance on several holes. Good variety of hole type requiring different shot types and not favoring any one throwing style. Tees are well worn in and leveled; some on hills leveled with wood and rocks (nice work), and fairly easy to spot. Potential for a great course.

Cons:

No signs. Tone poles. Many tone poles are now missing (stolen/vandalized). No map. A few holes play close to one another. A couple tone poles are black and hard to spot. A lot of trash and random destroyed objects around the course. No trash cans, benches, or rest rooms on the course.

Other Thoughts:

This property has the potential for a great course. It is a shame that many of the tone poles are now missing. I was lucky enough to meet a couple friendly locals at the course that were willing to show me around. They showed me where many of the missing tone poles used to be, but they even admitted that they didn't think they knew the correct layout on all the holes. Most of the holes make sense, but there were a few areas on the course where we really weren't sure which tone pole (or missing tone pole) we were supposed to be shooting at. With some cleaning up and the replacement of the missing tone poles, this course would be nice. With a serious makeover, it could be fabulous. I am rating this course higher than I feel I should purely on the fact that this property has serious potential. I seriously hope that a good group of locals can clean up the course and control the vandalism.
