A Rare Treat.. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 29, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Starting off I like to let everyone know what I'm personally looking for in a course. I love the scenic aspect of disc golf (this includes boulders, lakes, wildlife, and plant life- I do study horticulture). With that being stated, I rate a course based on a combination of the scenic factor and the overall course aspects (this includes layout, fairway lines, diversity of holes, and amenities).
After a just a few days of walking over my grandfather's epic land riddled with gravity deposited boulders, rocks and massive elevation changes I began brainstorming on making a disc course with a huge ball golf feel. This inspired me to concoct a 9 hole one time of the year par 37 golf course with the only par 6 in disc golf to my knowledge, over 2000' of downhill fun! 3 Ace runs are mixed into the two and three shot par 4 and 5 holes for a little bit of everything. Open bombs(holes 1-4) transcend into pastures dotted with sycamores and apple trees while the course changes into a few tight wooded holes lined with rhododendron thickets (5-7). Get off the old logging road fairways and the golfer is severely punished as you are faced with massive uphill recovery shots and tight lines. Gentle uphill, valley's everywhere, some severe uphill shots and craazy greens with every kind of lie you can ask for. Behind boulders, mature trees, down snake holes, the coyote den's, you name it and we have it!

Cons:

Don't come here execting fancy concrete tees, signs and benches. This is a manly man's mountain course that will beat you physically and mentally. You will get dirty and your disc will probably land in either cow, bear or coyote crap. Crossing the barb wire fences on holes 1,2 and 9 kind of sucks and eventually I will have walk-thru's in the right places. You can easily catch one of the few "unfair" branches that are way to high up on the tree for me to cut and kick forever down the mountain.

Other Thoughts:

I strictly carried the 7 Instep baskets strait up hill and put them in place for one week of the most epic 9 holes in disc golf. The landscape at Hybrid is made for disc golf but in my current situation I can only set it up a few times out of the year, maybe eventually I can make a permanent 18-25 hole layout for everyone to enjoy, until then come visit us at Simple Pleasures and become a member of the BDGM!!
