Beautiful Riverside Pay-to-Play Course 2+ years

Pros:
This private course was built by an entrepreneurial young man (Jacob) who is farming the family land. He has also constructed an Art Gallery, offers fly fishing, has a large garden from which he sells produce, and probably a couple of other things I forgot. So realize that Disc Golf is only a part of the operation.
When you check in at the main house you pay your $5 and get a nice scorecard with map and hole distances. Jacob leads you to the parking area and then walks you out to Hole 1. It is a good way to get a course overview as you make your way to the first hole.
This 18 hole course is built primarily through the trees along the San Juan River. It is pretty thick in a lot of places, and in additional to the river there is a creek that comes into play on several holes.
Hole lengths vary from 178' out to 549' so there is a lot of variety. There is little elevation change, and pretty much all of the challenge comes from negotiating the trees, river and fences.
There are a few holes where a drive out over the river offers the cleanest shot at the basket, but also a certain lost disc if you don't judge it correctly. The water is deep and moving fast.
Hole 6 requires a drive up a narrow road with the property line fence along one side. Luckily the fence has been extended quite high with orange construction fencing and you can actually run your drive right along it. Hole 18 requires a drive up the narrow road that you used to get to the parking lot. So some of these fairways are tight!
At the other end of the spectrum are holes like 7, 8, and 12 which throw along the edge of the trees with the main path being out over an alfalfa field. The two 500+ foot holes are in this area.

Cons:
Course layout requires a long walk (1/2 mile) from the parking area to the first tee. Course flow has you working back across some areas twice which could be an issue if multiple groups were on the course. And there are several places where you will see more than one basket from the tee so expect to do some scouting when you play the first time.
Baskets are homemade and are pretty decent, but the chain ring doesn't extend down far enough and some of the dimensions are a little odd.

Hole 13 in particular is too tight and requires a throw across a swampy wet area that pretty much can't be made from the tee.

Other Thoughts:
I can't say enough about the effort that has been expended to build this course. Jacob started with an object course, but when folks told him he needed baskets he built his own. He is still improving tee pads and fairways and I'm sure that the course will get better and better..
This is a fun course, but if you are expecting a well-polished, professional level course this isn't it (yet). But it is worth the $5 to play and support the effort. More play will likely lead to more course improvements.
