[Insert Your Favorite St. John's Pun Here]

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 14, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Park-style golf under tall oaks in a busy mutli-use park. Other park amenities include splash pad, playground, bathrooms, ice-rink pond, amphitheater, walking paths, etc. The park is well-maintained and seems a popular destination in the small town of St. John's.
- A small bit of elevation in play for a cruddy niner. Hole #5 throws uphill with the road behind, woo. Hole #'s 1-6 all use it to some degree.
- Good baskets, long concrete tee pads, enough signage to get the job done.

Cons:

- Very cramped section of park in which to fit a disc golf course leads to unsafe design and questionable design overall (such as having to walk the length of hole #6 just to throw back the way you just came). The road is in play almost the entire time. If the park is busy or any event is happening, forget it. Hole #'s 2-5 zig-zag all up on each other. Hole #8 includes a pavilion in the fairway, more or less.

Other Thoughts:

- If I lived nearby, I'd play it and grumble, but play it nonetheless. It's okay at non-peak times for a super quick round, and the kid's playground and bathroom facilities were nice enough, but St. John's is certainly nothing to hit otherwise unless one's in full-on course-bagging mode.

New baskets are in at least. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 5, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Brand new baskets.
Mowed grass with no rough, you won't lose your discs.
Tees and baskets are numbered.
Score sheets were available with distances.

Cons:

Tees are a 4x4 post in the ground, no pads.
Layout is terrible.
Hole 1 starts off next to a pavilion and you throw along and across a park drive.
Holes 2-5 basically play back and forth across the park. From the basket on hole #2, you move over about 30' and then play back to the #3 basket, which is about 30' away from the tee for #2. Repeat this process a couple more times for holes 4-5. Hole 6 changes things up a little bit, meaning you just have to walk farther to get to the tee. But then you play along a park drive that will have people walking, cars parked etc.
Hole 7 is again along the park drive, but on the other side of it. If there is people sitting at the picnic tables, or pavilions, holes 7-8 are basically unplayable.
Hole 9 is shorter and pretty much unobstructed though.

Other Thoughts:

This could be a very nice course if the layout was redone. The city park has lots of area to work with, including a large wooded area and a sledding hill that would make for a nice long bomber shot from the top.
Just for a safety standpoint, the course should be redone. Keep a few of the holes that are in the main park area, but move the rest of them to the woods or the open area near the sledding hill. This would make a nice playable course. As it is now, I don't recommend travelling very far to play this course.

My first Zero Disc Review 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 6, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

I am going to delve away from my normal layout for this one as there is only one pro for this course. There is a map by where the first tee should be, if it were there

Cons:

Aesthetic/Safety- Plays through a city park near over and around popular areas such as the ice skating rink, roads, paths, playgrounds and the like. A very dangerous course to say the least

Tees/Poles- in rough shape to say the least, when they are actually there. I would say that at least half of the poles are missing on this stinker.

Challenge/Variety- For a 9 hole course, there are actually some longer holes here. 300+footers but with no detectable lanes and no markers for people walking down the hill to see you are throwing discs, it's a dangerous course (again)

Other Thoughts:

I honestly had nothing nice to say about this course so I will stop my review there. I usually can find some silver lining on all courses but when the first tee and pin are completely missing, it's hard to find a positive. Don't waste your time.
