Pros:
- Easy access on campus
- Has a few interesting holes

Cons:
- Couldn't play the hole 8 mando properly due to people playing soccer and spectating right in the "fairway" after the mando turns left
- hole 5 tee is ridiculous on the steep tiny hill with a tree right on top of you
- Took a while to figure out where hole 7 tee is after playing 6. It's a long way away and wasn't well marked.

Other Thoughts:
- We played it while campus was not in session and there were still enough people around in this multi-use park to make playing some holes a problem.
- I'm a new player and have only played 3 courses so far (take my rating with a grain of salt)
- I foolishly threw my green Teebird from hole 4 tee and lost it in the drainage ditch during the cross attempt.
- Overall I liked the sister course at Slayter Hill better, but I expect this one will be a little more playable when class is in session.

Pros:
-West Lafayette's Purdue University is home to two complimentary 9-hole courses (Purdue Univ. DGC is the other), approximately a couple of blocks down W Stadium Ave from each other. Pickett Park is the longer, more open of the two courses. Elevation is the main draw here, with a long open grassy slope (#'s 1-3) and a hill dotted with trees (#'s 5, 6, and 9). Hole # 6 has a nice fast green on a downward slope, a drainage ditch lurking behind to punish long shots or rollaways. Despite scattered trees and elevation, and the drainage ditch, there's not a ton of risk/reward to be had here. Mostly longer "point and shoot" sort of deals without much in the way of notable hazards to contend with.
- Tee signs are the only thing keeping this course from being a complete horror show, from a navigation standpoint. Tees are natural, and with the exception of #5 (on a steep slope under a low tree forcing you to stand really awkwardly) are all okay enough.

Cons:
- This course is all up on itself. Hole #'s 1-3 play back and forth over basically the same patch of ground and are too closely spaced for safe play. The same is true of #'s 7 and 8, despite the mando. Hole #'s 4 and 5 are far too close to seats and benches and exercise equipment, walking paths, etc. Safety is an issue here, but should be less crowded than PU DGC on Slayter Hill most days.
- The narrow, trash-filled, nasty little drainage ditch they use predominantly on #9 is a great example of terrible course design. No real way to cross it exists unless you walk well out of your way, yet it comes into play especially on # 9. Hop it, or cross at the ankle breaking piles of drainage ditch rocks, at your own risk. I'm fairly nimble and I still thought this aspect of the course was asking too much.
- It looks like the course used to start with hole # 1 directly adjacent to the parking lot (where # 5 now resides). To reach the current hole # 1, head up the long grassy slope towards the electrical tower station.

Other Thoughts:
- Pickett Park's overall course design nicely compliments its shorter, slightly more wooded sister course (PU DGC) just down W Stadium Ave. The two courses being located more or less on the same property slightly raises the overall vibe and thus my rating.
- Be aware this course is seasonal based on football, etc. Not being available year-round slightly lowers my rating.
- NOTE: The holes pictured in the Media section show *some *of current layout; however, some hole numbers have been changed, while other holes have been tweaked or changed. (The picture listed as #1 is now #5, and the listed #8 is now #1, for example).
- Be aware this course is seasonal based on football, etc. Not being available year-round slightly lowers my rating.

I've never been on a course and thought "Please let this round end quickly" Everything from fairways that are on top of each other, over the top of each other and some that throw over a picnic area and into yet another, this is hands down the worst course I've played. It has every element of awful possible.

Pros:
Requires a variety of shots, and the basket placement is thoughtful.
Cons:
The tee signs are hard to read, because moisture has seeped into them, and the dirt tees aren't good footing, especially on hole 7. Its hard to find the next tee, especially if you are there for your first time, as unlike Slayter, there are no next tee signs under the basket. Hole 6 is ridiculously difficult off of the provided tee. As a beginner, you are practically guaranteed to go either into the creek, where your disc will be gone forever, into the tall grass, where you'll look for 5 min. and maybe find your disc, or into the bushes where you'll have no line to the basket. Hole 2 is boring.
Other Thoughts:
What they need to do to fix hole 6 is two things:
1. Move the tee forward to the left side of the first small tree, between the small tree and the group of trees. That would create a 190ft. par 3.
2. Cut the grass next to the creek where discs are likely to land.

Pros:
Solid beginner to intermediate course. Elevation and distance are major factors.
Signs - Great signs that are identical to the ones found at the nearby Purdue University Course.
Baskets - 9 very grippy Chainstar baskets that have hole number on them.
Variety - distance varies from just over 215 feet to 600 feet. Several hills and trees as obstacles. Hole one has some statutes as obstacles. Creek flows through middle of course.
Holes 6 and 9 have a small creek as an obstacle. If you throw into here, you can easily retrieve your disc.
Blind shots - holes 2, 6, 7, and 8 have blind shots due to elevation.
Room to improve.
Trash cans and benches on site.
Course is very spread out.

Course could easily expand to 12 holes which would eliminate long and confusing walks after 1, 6, and 8. Hole 5 could be split into 2 holes. It would greatly improve flow and make things less confusing.
Adding 2 permanent tees per hole that are not natural and improving navigational signage to the course could improve this course to a 3 or a 3.5.
The rating given to this course does not so it justice. It has much better play than some of my local Indy courses which have higher ratings. I had low expectations and came out very pleased. This course is a solid compliment to the nearby Purdue course.
Had trouble only giving it a 2.5. I will update my review if I see that the play improves.

Other Thoughts:
From a student's point of view who has played the course on Slayter Hill too many times, a fresh set of nine baskets is a great idea. With that said, this course holds little challenge, and perhaps even less purpose. I consider myself an amateur progressing towards intermediate player, and have played several great courses in Indiana- including Camp Collum and Valley View. I understand this is a young course, and they will be adding shrubbery to make it more interesting. I am one to believe it is possible to use existing land without the purpose of disc golf, and add a successful course. However, the University picked the wrong plot of land, and I feel bad for the designer. There is land south west of here with more woods and without conflict of other activities. With that in mind, this course falls short of a success. The baskets and tee signs have been up a full season, and tees indicate early foot traffic without many returners. I have never seen more than two groups on this course, and here's why:
Hole # 1- Up and over approximately five trees in the middle of a short, uphill fairway to a basket about 200' away.
Hole #2- Very open 400' hole (Par 4). Throw slightly uphill to long plateau, then downhill to basket on slope. Challenge: Winds, Grass approximately 1' tall around the circle.
Hole #3- 275'-300' in length mostly open dependent on one of two paths. Option 1: work your way through a tight tunnel of small trees then slightly uphill and right to basket. Option 2: Long Anny/ turnover thrown left and away from trees. The choice is obvious. Challenge: Too much power/carry will put your disc into a wall of trees/shrubs left and away from basket.
Hole #4-250 footer, string of trees on left-hand side form somewhat of a wall, and perhaps creates a lower ceiling, depending on how far out and right you play this one. Straight shot parallel to trees, then approach to opposite side of trees/wall for an easy putt. More talented players may try to sneak into a hole in said wall during a drive with a more stable disc, and have an easy birdie. Challenge: Ace.
Hole #5-350'-400' Par 4. Think of the capital letter "L". Flip it like a pancake. That is the path. A left mando was created to avoid any conflict with the previous hole. First throw is out then strong left to avoid nearby soccer fields. Straight up to basket, open fairway. Challenge: proper form when throwing a soccer ball back into play.
Hole # 6- Disaster. A 250'-275'? par 3, a slanted narrow fairway then up and left through two mature trees to basket. The only hole that is truly interesting. Must stay left of creek alongside entire fairway to be inbounds. Teeing off is a puzzling drive. Not much room on right hand side because of trees and a telephone pole, plus OB. No room on left because of hole 4. No room in front because of a wall of trees/shrubs. Challenge: Unless you are a pro, close your eyes and good luck. Come to think of it, I haven't tried that yet.
Hole #7- Plays as a 350' open hyzer bomb. Up and over the right-side of quite a hill. Challenge: Don't throw into the hill.
Hole # 8- 200' Very open and slightly downhill. Putter anyone? Challenge: Stay on the hill, don't throw too far.
Hole #9- 300' straight and to a basket on the slope of a hill. Wind comes into play, throw something stable. Challenge: Don't roll away from the basket.
Summary: Afterthought. Limited land and few obstacles provide a waste for a course so close to campus. Travel across the river to the recently revised Murdock course.
