Resoft DGC - Redux drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 21, 2023 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Updated and from UDisc 3/22/23:

Full 18 Starts w/holes 1 and 2 near park entrance. Hole #9/18 moved (3/5/23) to fun/challenging Triangle Island Green. Also, #14 & 15 w/challenging/managable/fun water carries and #13 hole having a -20' elevation change implemented w/Resoft County Park Team, supplying a different for-these-parts look. Current layout is on UDisc and includes 6 hard surface Tee Boxes (to be outlined w/paint, stenciled hole number & footage) and 12 on Turf w/low profile (for mowing) brick markers.

The baskets are all new (1-7 Aug 2022 & 8-9 ca. 2019) and in good shape now. Requires bit of walking as some holes are spread apart but have improved that (-500' H9 to T1) w/#9/18 move. When walking between #7 & 8, doing an Impromtu Roseate Spoonbill count on the exceptional Bird Islands is an entertaining pass time. If moving out well, expect 1.5-2 hour rounds of 18 and 1/2 that for 9. Can be a bit breezy, in fact, its a great place to learn how to play in the wind. Sign Board by #1 to be repaired by park staff & new layout/details/rules posted in sync w/UDisc.

Rules General:
-ALWAYS yield to all Folks and Vehicles on Trails, Fields, Parking Lots & Roads
-KEEP your head on a swivel for Vehicles either direction on 1, 2, 9, 10, 11 & 18
-STEER CLEAR of and watch out for All Wildlife
-NO Wading or Swimming allowed at any time. Safe distance of 1M from waters edge should be
maintained as slope is very steep up to and below water level
-Out of Bounds (OB) All Paved Roads & Parking Lots +1 Stroke mark 1M from OB location no closer to
the hole (per PDGA rules)
-Missed Mando (9, 10, 16, 17 & 18) +1 stroke and Drop Zone mark 1M from Mando Sign
no closer to the hole
-Discs on Walking trails should be treated as Casual Water & marked off the trail no closer to &
in line with the hole

Hole Specific OB
#1/10 Walking Trail on West Side OB (no trespassing beyond fence)
#2/11 Walking Trail on East Side OB (no trespassing beyond fence)
#3/12 Over Fence on East Side OB (no trespassing beyond fence)
#9/18 Road surface and East & West of OB (fairway S/short of Trisland Grass Green is not OB)
#14 & #15 Water Carry Re-Tee if not crossed to land OB (+1 stroke) or 2M from water if crossed
to land then rolled into water OB (+1 stroke)

Note: Lost and found discs, markers, etc... can be turned into park personel at office

Starts with holes one and two by the entrance to park. Requires bit of walking
as some holes are spread apart but have improved that (-500' H9 to T1) w/#9
move (details below). The baskets are all new (1-7 Aug '22 w/8 & 9 for a few
years) and in good shape now.

Hole 9 moved to fun/challenging Triangle Island (3/5/23) w/roads short of and
East/West side (& beyond E/W side) played as OB.

Stay tuned for Full 18 w/2 challenging/managable/fun water carries and 1 w/-20'
elevation change being inplementing w/Resoft County Park Team. Current plan
includes 7 hard surface Tee Boxes (to be outlined w/paint, stenciled hole number
& footage) and 11 on Turf w/low profile (for mowing) brick markers replacing
current high profile markers.

Sign Board by #1 to be repaired by park staff & new layout/details/rules posted.

Don't bother 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 12, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Can't think of any......

It has 6 baskets?

Cons:

3 baskets missing
holes throwing across road/walking paths
Cheap baskets (which is why they are missing 3)

Other Thoughts:

Even with baskets, this is a poor course in it's design.

the course starts at the parking lot and throws around the lake and back to the parking lot. That is/was the whole design, not any real thought. There is a nice area unused that could have held a hole or two and made the course twice as nice.

NEVER design a course around a playground.
NEVER design a course throwing down sidewalk (even across a sidewalk is not good)
Yes, the pond comes into play, it does make a couple of the holes challenging specially considering the other side has a small creek (more of a drainage ditch that holds water)

Hole 7 would have been a decent hole if it were not for the fact there was a swing set to the right of the fairway. I could not throw because a little girl was swinging. I just threw an upshot, then another instead of risking hitting her.

Hole 8 is just as dangerous, you are literally throwing around a part of the playground.

So, would I play here again.

NO, even with baskets, this course is not worth playing.

Now redesign the course using part of the park not used and we can talk.

Locals Only 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 10, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beautiful Park. Wide-open areas, Lots of wildlife. Water-holes are a definite challenge. (Bring your Wahoo and Dragon!)

Cons:

Three baskets (2), (5), and (9) were not to be found. The other six baskets were of the minimal variety (Basket in name only). However, this did not hamper my play. Hole #7 plays directly through the parks main Playground, and even a hugh anhyzer is dangerous if children are present (there was a birthday party during my round). I played way left into the parking lot and back in to the basket. Hole 8 also lines through the slide/tunnel area of the playground, I also annied around this. I feel, too, that the tees are way too close to the baskets in many cases.

Other Thoughts:

It's a shame with all the beautiful land available, they buried this 9-holer in the middle of the most populated areas.

Open, non-technical course with water hazards and playground 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 6, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course circles a pond and great playground, so bring the family and your fishing poles. You'll have better luck retrieving fish than your discs!

Cons:

Baskets only have 2 rows of chains (total of 14 chains) which does not help in catching your disc.

Not too much around to block the wind.

If you have a disc that floats, pull it out for three of the 9 holes (#4, #5, #6).

There is only one place to cross the 15 foot wide creek that runs alongside the course (by the basket for hole number two). Sucks if you throw it over on holes four or five. But I found myself throwing towards the creek instead of toward the pond because there's a better chance of wading and finding my disc if it goes in the shallow creek. Whoever maintains this should think about putting steppingstones to go across at intervals.

Lost 2 discs in water but recovered 1 disc on hole #5.

Be careful not to grip lock on holes #7 and #8 because you're playing right along the playground. I would not suggest playing on a weekend as there will be families with kids, making these holes difficult and increasing wait time. Very dangerous.

On hole #9 be careful not to throw into the parking lot and hit any cars.

Other Thoughts:

The tees are very close the the previous baskets. Too close to be safe, in fact. Someone could easily overthrow on these short holes.

I was warned! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 30, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

None - I would quit playing if this was the only course available!

Cons:

I was warned not to bother, but I had to see for myself. I can't really add anything to the above reveiws, they were very accurate!

Other Thoughts:

Sad that more thought wasn't put into this. It is a beatiful park, with lots of space for a nice course layout. Also, cheap baskets are a waste of time & money. One of them has already been knocked over

Worse than Shadow Creek Ranch-! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 25, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

If you lived in one of the nearby trailer-homes and did not have a running vehicle.....this MAY be the course for you. Otherwise, skip it.

Cons:

As stated above, there are just so many BAD to TERRIBLE things about this course it's hard to know where to begin.
I echo the thoughts on the basket type - these will however not be an issue as they will rust, dent, fall over or otherwise be useless in about a year or so.
The layout is just so poorly thought out that I have trouble thinking anyone who knows our sport was consulted when the design was being planned.
The worst thing however, has to be the safety aspect - or LACK of it, I should say. I measured 6 feet between the end of the teepad space and one of the baskets with other holes averaging 10-20. This means that on about half the baskets...the following teepad is WITHIN the 10meter circle! Ridiculous!!

Other Thoughts:

Resoft park is by all standards, a pretty park with a beautiful lake - some exotic birds and plenty of area. Why the course designers decided to shoehorn 9 holes around a jogging path, parking lots and a kids playground is a question only THEY could answer. Will not be playing there again.

Worst course EVER! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 1, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Close to the house. That's it.

Cons:

Where to start? The layout of this course is the worst I've ever seen. Two baskets have to be thrown right by a playground. Pretty much makes them unplayable if any kids are around. I know I wouldn't want to hit a child with a disc flying 50 mph. Holes 4 & 5 have water on both sides, "fairway" is a jogging path with about 15' of sloped grass on each side. Very easy to lose a disc, don't ask me how I know. The baskets are cheaply made and spit your disc out more than they catch it. Resoft park has a ton of area that the designers could've used to install the course. Very poorly designed and not thought out at all. I hope no children get injured by an errant disc. I wouldn't even throw the two playground holes. With so many other courses around, skip this one and play somewhere else. I,for one, will never go play here again. Hands down, worst course I've ever played!

Let my visit save you a trip here 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 16, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Well... there are baskets in the ground and tee markers that are about half correct.

Cons:

There are so many issues with this course...

- Hole #1 throws over a road and in between two parking lots.

- Holes #2-5 throw right along the walking/jogging trail. That could lead to ridiculously long waits to throw.

- Holes #4 & #5 are long throws with narrow fairways and water on both sides and will just eat the plastic of most of the players who will play this course.

<span class="red">- Hole #7 throws over a road, alongside a parking lot, through a playground swingset and over a log-walk. I can't envision when this hole would actually be playable without serious risk of hitting/injuring someone.

- Hole #8 throws either over or around another playground area. More serious danger to unsuspecting park patrons.
</span>

- The tees are way too close to the previous basket, like 20' from basket to tee marker. If you assume the markers are at the front of the tee box that means the back of the box is only <span class="red">10'</span> from the basket.

- The baskets are DGA M-14 portables that have been concreted in. M-14's are generally considered the lowest end baskets, that are just as likely to spit as they are to catch. They're not intended to be installed permanently and will probably rust out in a year or two.

- The tee posts aren't consistently marked on the same side of the tee box. They also have DGA stickers on them that will fall off within a week.

- Tee posts for #6 & #8 are pointed in the wrong direction.

- Tee post #8 is missing the number.

- Tee post #9 erroneously has #8 on it.

Other Thoughts:

This course seems like it was installed by folks not sure who their target audience is and with disregard to safety of other park patrons. A park course like this should probably target recreational level players. But holes #4 & #5 would be good holes for <span class="italic">top Professional</span> players, everyone else is just going to lose all their discs on these two holes. After one visit to this course I have no intention to go back.
