Much better than it looks from the parking lot!

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 19, 2024 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Amazing views of the surrounding mountains
- Multiple tee pads per holes
- Elevation present on almost every hole
- Concrete for almost every tee pad
- Big red band on nice baskets helps to see them
- Water, trees, and rolling hills add challenge
- Also has a par 2 putting course to warm up or cool down on
- Clean bathrooms open most of the year
- Very little to no litter in an affluent neighborhood
- Good variety of distances and fairway shape
- Basket locations are well thought out

Cons:

- The front nine is pretty darn open and only hills keep it interesting
- No big air it out or true par 4 holes
- Some strange walks where you walk past the next basket to the tee pad instead of teeing off near the last basket

Other Thoughts:

This one was pretty shocking to me. I get out of the car and look at these beautiful mountains and I'm like oh nice then look at the course and it looks super open and boring and I'm like "oh here we go" but this was way better than I anticipated. The back 9 is much better than the front but even in the front there are a few fun downhill throws. The back plays more into this stream and the trees as fervent guardians of baskets. I may move this rating up again if I play this course again, who knows. Is it The Fort? No but it is an enjoyable course that I would be happy play if I lived close by. Unless you're a 1000+ rated player looking for a challenge I think you'll enjoy this one.

Hidden Gem 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 13, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

I went to the course on a sunday and I was the only one there. Beautiful course. The front 9 pretty much open good long shots and short one too.. I like the multiple tee pads. This was my first time playing so played the red tees. The back 9 more tech. Lots of scrub oak good basket placement.

You might need a spotter on the back 9 if you play the blue tees. Use bright color disc in the scrub oak. On the red tees back 9 no spotter needed.

Cons:

The front 9 can get a lot of wind pretty much open. On the front 9 baskets had a lot of Wasp activity. Also noticed lots of Wasp hanging around the scrub oak as well.

The Wasp didn't bother me they we just doing there thing.
They weren't aggressive but if it was yellow jackets I would have left.

Other Thoughts:

There is a lot of mid range disc shots. You get a lot of practice with the mid range. Didn't need a driver on the back 9. Make sure you bring a map, water, snacks.
When I was there there was a Port a John.

Overall Great course lots of variety. I was the only person at the park. There was no one. Great hidden gem. I will play this course again really soon.

Excellent variety, but watch out for dense plantlife 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 21, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Excellent variety of long and open holes and short, wooded holes.
The course uses its terrain well. The shots over the grassy bowl (3, 8), over trees (11, 13, 17), and around trees (especially hole 6) were particularly good uses. Hole 16 has a basket on top of a mound of dirt, which makes for a challenging (and punishing) putt.
Some of the holes are in a wide open grassy field, which due to the location frequently requires you to account for strong winds.

Cons:

The dense underbrush is particularly difficult to navigate and find discs in. On some holes this dense area is very close to the hole or fairway. Bad shots are not only punished, but may result in the loss of a disc.
The first hole plays over a soccer field. There is an alternate hole, but be aware of kids.
The tees are frequently short or on an uneven surface. They are marked, but maps at each tee would be useful, as some of the baskets are near each other.

Other Thoughts:

As you need a spotter to play a few of these holes, it's not a good solo-play course.
There is a practice basket.

First round at Beacon Hills 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 16, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Good balance of long, open shots and shorter, dog legging, wooded shots.

-Both types of holes require a good deal of skill to birdie. Bad throws go punished.

-Good tee marking signs. Blue tees are longer, red tees are shorter-good for beginners.

-Flags top each basket.

-In an area which is often windy. This creates a good, challenging atmosphere.

Cons:

-Hole 6 doesn't match the map, and I couldn't find the blue tee box. The red tee box, however, seems to play in reverse to what the map indicates.

-The "front 9" holes intermingle with open, grassy areas and paths which can often be busy, creating hazards (hitting people with a disc.)

-Rubber mat tee boxes are too short (~4 ft), and the dirt behind it is often sloped or bumpy.

-Zero amenities. No bathrooms, water, or benches.

Other Thoughts:

First time playing this course. I thoroughly enjoyed it. A map for your first time is a necessity. Also, I should have had a spotter for the wooded holes. I spent a lot of time looking for discs in trees and high grass.

New Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 9, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

-The course is in a nice area surrounded by big nice houses. The park is new so the grass and walking areas are nice and groomed.
-There were maps and scorecards on hole one for you to take and use.
-Good variety of up hill and down hill throws. There were also some good straight holes and then about even with right and left bending holes.
-The front nine are laid out pretty well and easy to follow one hole to the next. You can see the basket for almost all holes on the front nine.
-The front nine are pretty easy and open. Good for everyone to play. The back nine are the harder holes with lots of hills and blind throws.

Cons:

-The back nine. You need a spotter for a good part of the back nine. If not you will be digging through scrub oak and sage bushes trying to find your disc, and there are a lot of scrub oaks and sage bushes. I'm not one that likes to use spotters, it slows the game and is just a hassle.
-There are no bathrooms, fountains, benches, or garbage cans. So don't drink to much liquid, don't get tired of walking cause you can't sit down and what you bring in you'll pack out as well.
-Tee areas have mats for some. They are small and do not allow for a full run up. Keeping them natural would be better so you don't trip on the edge of the mat on approach.
-Baskets aren't the best quality. I worry they will break down fairly soon as the metal and chains are not made very heavy and sturdy.

Other Thoughts:

Overall it's not bad. If you are in the area it's a good course to throw, however I won't be going out of my way to return to it. It's a new course so there is always room for improvement which will come.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 7, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

* Lots of elevation change across the course - downhill, uphill, sidehill, and even the occasional flat hole.

* Great variety of landscape, course plays across manicured parkland, dirt and wild grassland, in and out of scrub oak forest area.

* Many different options for most holes - very few holes where it heavily favors BH or FH.

* Elevated pins make for an added challenge.

* Multiple tees add a bit of variety to the course and make it more accessible for a wide range of player skills.

* Good amount of signage, especially considering how new the course is.

* The "nature trail" from Pin 13 to Tee 14 is entertaining.

Cons:

* Teepads. Several of the holes have rubber mat teepads, and that's OK. The problem is they're way too short - most seem about 10% longer than they are wide. If you're doing a run up with an x-step, landing with your left foot (throwing RHBH) on the pad would probably put your plant foot off then end. Any way you slice it you have to step over the end of the teepad (and don't trip, as some stick up a bit) during the most critical part of the run-up. I'd prefer to have them left natural rather than so short.

* Overlapping holes. Worst offenders are 9 (throws over the 11/12 tees and directly at the 10 tee), and 12 (throws over 2 and 8 baskets and 3 tee). Several of the front 9 holes, while they don't explicitly overlap, felt like we were in the way of folks on an adjacent hole while playing.

* A lot of the holes fall into two different descriptions:
** Clear, straight shot with elevation changes (almost all of the front 9)
** Straight shot along the edge of the scrub oak, then hook right or left to the basket sitting in a small clearing.

* Path from basket to next hole - worst is 11 where there's really no option but to walk the hole in reverse to get to the next tee. 5 and 7 have some amount of this as well.

* Costco baskets (with some added chains) aren't the greatest. They're brand new right now, hopefully they don't age as poorly as the one in my back yard.

* Navigating the course is a little difficult. Definitely recommend printing a map.

* Pretty much 0 amenities. No bathrooms, garbage cans, or benches.

Other Thoughts:

Played this course as part of a Trilogy Challenge event. It was quite windy when we played, which drained a lot of the enjoyment out of the wide open holes.

The "Outback Back 9" is where this course really shines though. You'll definitely want a spotter as there's lots of blind shots. It's an unfortunate trade-off, as I definitely wouldn't play those holes without a spotter, but they're also the best holes of the course.

I know they're planning on adding even more chains to most of the baskets, which should help for some folks (no one in our group had any chain-related problems during our round).

Overall, it's a fun course with some room for improvement. Some of the cons - amenities, costoco baskets, are really just nit-picky IMO. The overlapping holes is really only an issue when it's quite busy. The teepads are the most major issue to me. The course I play most is all grass teepads - they're not idea, but they're uniform at least. The teeboxes here that are just grass, or marked on existing sidewalk/pathway are ok - most of the sidewalk ones are perpendicular to the path so they're not really long enough to run-up on either, but they're less of a hazard than the rubber mats.

I'll definitely be back, although hopefully on a day that's significantly less windy. If windy, I'd probably just play the back 9 twice.

Beautiful Area 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 7, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

A beautiful clean course in the middle of a gorgeous neighborhood. A great job was done using the available space. Signage was good considering the use of multiple tees. We enjoyed the variety of challenges on the course.

Cons:

Single layer of chains was a minus, though it it were upgraded, I would bump the rating a point. In my opinion, I've learned that DG has the following challenges: Skill (distance or throwing techniques), Obstacles, and Elevation. Good courses and holes incorporate at least 2 of these challenges at a time. This course had a great variety with those 3 challenges, but rarely more than 1 on a given hole. I would recommend a spotter on some of the Outback holes.

Beacon Hills definitely worth checking out! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 4, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

As of today there are baskets at each hole and an additional practice basket has been put in near hole 1 tee pad. The course offers a variety of shots, shot long, across ditches, a few blind shots, 7 is a nasty dogleg that can be played as a fun but risky hyzerbomb. The back nine are super fun but play in dense trees and bushes. There are blue (pro) and red (beginner) tee pads for most if not all holes. The course uses terrain very well for the land used.

Cons:

There are not permanent tee pads yet, was told by the course designer that pads are coming, and so are a second set of chains. The baskets are not top of the line (Costco special I believe), but don't let that deter you from checking the course out.

Other Thoughts:

For still being in it'd infancy this course has a huge amount of potential to be a great course. Brandon has put a ton of work in on the course. Of the 4 times I've played, each time things have been added for the betterment of the course; course maps at hole 1, objects replaced with baskets, back nine put in, practice basket, and announcements of upcoming events at tee pads.
