Pros: A wooded course that has some very tough windows. it is the only real wooded course in the area which Rochester needed. Must be accurate off the tee or your score will be punished.

Play area can seem a bit rough at times, as many complain that luck is a big factor at this course. Because of this, at first almost everyone hates this course, but it grows on you the more you play. The course is not long but plays tough score wise.
Cons: No bridges makes crossing streams frustrating at times.

Other Thoughts: Probably the second most used course in Rochester during the Summer.

Pros: Some challenging shots through woods and some elevation. Recently added cement pads. Nice Challenge

Discatchers are in good shape and park has remained in decent shape over time.

New bridges have been added

Great variety of shots with some real risk vs. reward opportunities
Cons: Several holes have no fairways, it is just chucking through dense trees and hoping for a line.
Bridge by 17 has been washed away, nowhere to cross. Other bridges are sketchy, but they get you across the water.
Cross Country kids running in the woods in the fall between 3-5:30 pm, back 9 has been beaten up by vandalism.
Other Thoughts: On Saturday mornings the course is crowded, go before 8am or after 11am

I originally gave this course a 4, but now that I have played 100 more courses I can see that this is still a high quality course, but it is not a 4.

Pros: A very nice course. The signs are very descriptive and the tees well marked (at least on the front nine). The woods are well broken in: the good shots get through and the bad ones hit trees or fall over hills, but no discs get lost. Great use of the ups and downs of the terrain on the back nine. The front nine and back nine are laid out as two distinct circuits, which makes it easy to just play one or the other, or to take a break in between.
Cons: The red tees and yellows (which I'm assuming are am and pro) are IDENTICAL for all of the front nine and most of the back, I felt like the 3 tee concept was a running joke. The back nine shows evidence of late night partying /drinking and destruction of tees and signs. Vandalism is an unfortunate issue with woods courses, and it is evident here.
Other Thoughts: Even though it is over an hour away, this is one I'll play again.

Pros: Challenging pars without being "unfair", there is almost always a path available to make it to the basket. Rough isn't too thick so losing discs isn't a major issue. Home-made benches at a lot of tees.
Cons: Some missing signs. The walk from #9 to #10 may confuse first-timers. Print a map if you haven't played here before.
Other Thoughts: Basil is one of the more popular wooded courses in the Rochester area and also one of the most challenging. Making par here is tough but it can definitely be done with some accurate shots and a little luck!

If you're into wooded courses or you're just looking for a challenge then by all means, stop by Basil for a round or two.
