One of WI's worst

Reviewed: Played on:May 7, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Arctic Springs is a 6 hole course in Galesville WI. It's located next to the Arctic Springs restaurant but is actually in a small park. There's some kind of trout farm facility in the park and a pavillion.

The baskets are DGA Mach's of some sort. II's if I had to guess, very possibly III"s. These catch fine and are more than adequate here. One pin position and basket per hole. Solid.

The flow of the course is *basically* pretty simple. Plays counterclockwise around the park with hole 1 starting to the south side of the restaurant.

Water can come into play on holes 1 and 2 with an errant shot that drifts or fades too far to the right.

Hole 4's basket plays slightly uphill. Hole 5's tee has you throwing downhill over the parking lot. This is the only elevation here. Not bad for only being 6 holes.

That's more than I thought I'd come up with.

Cons:

Oh man, where to start...

The tee signs. 3 are present, 3 are long gone. Not a major con really with such a small park. But with no map to be found anywhere, even Udisc, it makes orientating yourself to start a hassle. The 3 that are there don't offer much info anyway. The post they're mounted on serve more of a purpose in just getting you to a tee.

Hole 3's basket is mounted directly in a perpetually wet area. It's almost comical. Not almost really. It's one of the worst pin placements I've ever seen. There was dead grass, taller than the basket completely engulfing the basket from last year.

For anyone not eating at the restaurant and just driving here to play. Hole 6 is the one you'll see first. Right by the parking lot. I'd just start on this one. It's both the worst starting AND/OR worst finishing hole. Throws over a pavillion (probably rarely used) coupled with swampy, unlevel footing.

Hole 5 had us throwing over our own vehicle, unbeknownst to us while parking. That was cool.

Lot's of goose poop, surprisingly more dog poop though. This course is the ish, number 2 in Galesville.

Other Thoughts:

Out of over 300 courses played in WI and over 800 overall. One of the worst places I've stepped foot on. I can't recommend avoiding this place at all costs enough. If you have to bag it, it's doable, it's not pleasant. The golden lining is that there's a mediocre middle school course less than 5 minutes away.

Probably top 5, for sure top 10 worst places I've played. Impressively unimpressive. Seriously debated the 0 rating here. It's that good.

Where are the tees? 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 8, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

I nice location next to Arctic Springs Supper Club and a walking trail. All 6 baskets are intact.

Cons:

Tee signs for 3,5 and 6. I found 6 baskets but one is in an unmowed area near the swamp. I don't know why it's been neglected.

Other Thoughts:

In a small park near a Supper Club. It would be a fun little course with 6 short holes if it was maintained. There is another course about a mile away at the GET middle school.

Well, they tried... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 15, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course is a bit out of the way so there is not much traffic here. The baskets are Mach 2 and catch fairly decent. although is mostly an open course there are a couple of holes with trees and other on obstacles. Also, in the few places where there were tee signs they were somewhat descriptive and not too difficult to follow. There is simply not much more to say that is positive about this course. There is a lake on a property here but it really doesn't come into on most of the shots one will take, however there is a creek on the right side of hole four that is in danger of eating discs.

Cons:

although I'm confident they were at one point tee signs for all the holes I only found three in existence out of the six remaining. The land here is incredibly marshy and even though it is mid-June with not a tremendous amount of rainfall recently, my feet are quite wet just from attempting to play this course. the course is settled on a very small piece of land and all six baskets are fairly close to each other. hole 6 in particular is a very odd shot as you almost have to shoot through a pavilion or far right around a tree to attempt to the get to the basket.

Other Thoughts:

In the end I only ended up shooting three of the six holes. The rest of the holes simply weren't worth getting my feet completely soaked or losing a disc either in the creek on the right side or in the marshy tall Grass area in the center of the course. I am pretty confident I will not make a return trip to this course even though I live only 20 miles away, so by all means I would recommend not to go out of your way to attempt these six holes.

Nice but short 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 15, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great, scenic location. Located between a small lake and a small stream, bringing water into play on several holes. As a new player, this is a good course to work on dealing with water. It's a short course, but you can get through it 3 times fairly quickly for a round of 18. The baskets are excellent. The course requires fairly accurate driving to avoid water and some thicker deep grass behind some of the baskets.

Cons:

For more experienced players this will be a very easy course. Not having at least 9 holes is definitely a drawback. There is not much in the way of obstacles. The 6th hole requires either going through or around a covered picnic shelter. This is really the only obstacle aside from the water.

Other Thoughts:

For what it is, this is a very nice and well kept course. It gives opportunities to work on shot accuracy and for very accurate throwers, every hole is an ace possibility.
