It's nice to see a new, nine hole course designed for casual and recreational players. Not every course has to be tournament caliber. Sited beside a pretty lake in central Kentucky, disc golfers can come enjoy an easy loop and a swim at the beach. Yet there will still be a couple of places where you'll get to have a gut check shot. In winter, the lake is lowered, and there's plenty of extra dry ground, but in summer, a lot of players will be swimming for shots that go awry on the peninsula opener and the longer water carry second. Though the land gave up very limited elevation, you will get to throw upslope on seven, and glide down on eight. You have woods to navigate on 1, 3, and 5 through 9. There are opportunities to shape lines left and right out here, too, and with the likelihood of breezes blowing off the water, this small course is not a bad sampler of the disc golf 'vocabulary'.

The design flows smoothly and intuitively in almost all instances, and the new DGA baskets are good catchers. They already have temporary signage and level, natural turf tees, so we'll have to see if concrete is planned.

The sandy soil actually feels 'loose' underfoot, so permanent tees would be nice, but possibly an engineering challenge (looks like the lake can 'flood' up onto the lower part of the course...). The terrain didn't give the designer much chance to really have fun with elevations, so that aspect of the course is a little limited. There's only one 'flow' challenge, when you walk back up from basket 7 to the 8th tee, and could be close to throws if there's a careless group behind you. Finally, if you're playing the course as planned, don't throw from 2 to the nearest visible basket. That's 6. Makes for a nice safari shortie, though!

To get to the course, go out Smith Ridge from Campbelsville and turn right on County Park Road, all the way to the end, in front of the Condos, to the beach parking lot for hole 1.
