Pros:

[UPDATE] : I've yet to physically confirm this, but I've been told that Tee Pads have now been installed here! I'll update this review after I play here again, but I wanted add this info. Letting people know that improvements have been made since my last visit
• Nice Discatcher Baskets
• Scenic Beauty, plays in a park near a small lake
• Good Layout, with varying ranges of distance. (relative to the fact there are no tee areas)
• Small, allowing for quick rounds
• Good first course for a small town
• Practice Basket
• Multi-Use Park with Playground equipment and a swimming pool

Cons:

• The big detractor here is that there are no designated tee areas. (I did find 3 small construction flags. But 3 out of 9, does not a course it make)
• This course is subject to Non-DG Pedestrian traffic
• Stay out of the Creek on 5! The rough is obnoxious and full of thorns and briars! Not a place to traipse around in shorts.

Other Thoughts:

I came out here expecting a small town park course. My big shock was that there wasn't any tee areas. I get that concrete tee's aren't always an instantaneous addition. I was surprised that there weren't any better markers for the tee areas. I managed to find three small construction flags that were placed for tee markers. I guess I was surprised that there wasn't anything more longstanding. Wooden tee markers, metal real estate signs, etc... There are plenty of options to substitute for tee's in the mean time.

I guess it makes it a concern because this course could be a nice little place to play. It felt as if this project has just fell to the wayside. The baskets were nice, and the pin locations looked as if they were well thought out. Without a tee area, it's going to be a hard sell. I never found the first tee!! I couldn't use the practice basket as a starting point due to a shelter that was being used stood between me and the 1st basket.

Carthage has the potential to have a nice play to play! Keyword=Potential! As of right now, it's not worth driving out to play. Unless you know the layout! (If you do, please share on this site! That would be a start!) This course has been open since fall of 2014 and It needs to be finished!! I drove down from Mount Pleasant to play here. How many others would come to Carthage to check it out? As soon as this course gets tees in, then the city will probably be surprised to see how fast Disc Golf would grow in the Carthage area.

Small town course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 31, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Brand new baskets and practice basket. Some holes do involve technical skill, especially hole 7 which has a lake along the whole left side. Other holes follow a tree line. There are some trees along the fairways to prevent a clear shot. Course has a logical flow that begins and ends by the parking lot.

Cons:

No tee pads or signs. There are 2 flags used as markers. A couple of holes go right along the road.

Other Thoughts:

I'm going to assume at some time they will add signs and tee pads. It looks like it's still in the developmental stages. Most holes seemed like they fell in the 250-350 foot range. Other than that this was like many other 9 hole park courses. Course starts and finishes at the north side of the shelter and playground equipment.
