New Course Design 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 17, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

New layout of the course and now it is an 18 hole course.

Uses more shots across the river and ponds.

Took the people traffic out of the course for safety.

Cons:

No concrete teepads yet, but coming this spring.

Other Thoughts:

This course is a great and challenging course now. Would recommend stopping by to see it.

Don't go out of your way! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 13, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Easy to find your disks
HOI possible throughout the course

Cons:

Navigation is tough even though it is a small park
Too crowded with innocent bystanders
No latitude changes

Other Thoughts:

I spent my time finding this little park and played through a few times. It is fast and good for bringing the kids as a teaching opportunity....except for all the innocent bystanders.

TLC pls 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 9, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

well maintained
grass cut
bathrooms
hole 6 and 7 are fun for crushing some shots.
lots of locals playing and are pretty friendly.
real pretty park for other things to do.

Cons:

basket 1 and 9 are wrongly numbered
a few tee pads are missing
find basket 9 which is actually 1 and teeing off is up the steps at the amp theater.
look out for bikers and walkers

Other Thoughts:

If Mason City Parks and Rec were to spend a little money on this course it would not be that bad of a place to play. Couple tee pads added. Some paint or signs showing where to go.

Pros:

Metal baskets

Cons:

Hard to find teepads
No maps or signs
Located in a busy park
3 holes don't have teepads
Terrible design

Other Thoughts:

I wouldn't waste your time with this course! Unless you live in mason city, I wouldn't even think of going here!

Incomplete 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 21, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Found all the baskets
Well maintained
The concrete tee pads that are there are nice.
Holes 4-7 are fun

Cons:

Could not find tee pads for 1, 8 or 9
No signs for any holes (or the course) and the painting on the tee pads are faded or not existant.
Long walk from 4 to 5

Other Thoughts:

Add missing tee pads and signs I could probably rate this course in the 2-2.5 range.
On hole 5 cross the water before walking the length of the hole to the tee pad.
6 and 7 are under the bridge.
Water only seemed to be in play if your really shanked your shot, but the water looked shallow enough you should be able to fish it out and not have water go above your knees.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 24, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Well maintained fairways
-Proximity to other activities, such as bbqing or other park fun.

Cons:

-Abysmal layout. We couldn't find tee 1. Played holes 2-4 then got lost on 5. Ended up giving up and going to a different course.
-Short, easy shots. Not much difficulty here. There are a few water hazards that are fun, but not a lot here.

Other Thoughts:

You might as well play it if you are in the area, but don't take a trip there! It's not worth it! And bring a map or course guide if you want to find the full course.

Not a fan 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 2, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

I love east park. A couple good holes. hole 4 is pretty tough in the trees.

Cons:

Well where do i start? the course is poorly put together. In the summer there is goose crap every where. Which is pretty annoying. Catchers are old and need to be replaced.

Other Thoughts:

East park has a lot of potential. If they tore out the old course and redesigned a new one through the whole park? this would be ideal.

passing through town 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 21, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very nice looking and well kept park.

Cons:

Poorly laid out in my opinion, some holes are too far apart and since there are no tee signs or adequately labeled tees it is ver hard to navigate. We couldn't find tees for 2 or 3 of the holes. It also seemed on the last hole you throw pretty close to a parking lot and a gazebo (we couldn't find the tee for hole 9 but it seems wherever it is would be in the way)

Other Thoughts:

I would give it another shot on a nicer day, there was no one else there golfing so we had no one to ask directions.

Some park traffic that creates obstacles.

Other Thoughts:

Great rec course if you don't mind the park traffic.

Beginner's Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 6, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Very easy course for a beginner. Baskets are easy to find. Most holes have concrete pads.

Cons:

Wide open area. Too easy. Can usually make it in the basket in 3 throws or less. Some holes don't have concrete pads or hole number (signs) so you don't know what the par is or which basket your throwing to. Course starts off by band-shell, at the top of the stairs. Need to be careful when throwing over trail because of people. Hole 5 was switched around (Basket is where you used to start) so you have to walk entire length of hole. #6 and #7 are on the other side of road so you must walk underneath Kentucky St. bridge. Hole 9 is suppose to start on the manhole cover but everyone starts on the dirt area (see where it would be nice to have a concrete pad here?). Overall, the course needs an overhaul but is playable.

Old style course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 9, 2007 Played the course:never

Pros:

Not much to list here, though the one hole hidden behind the bathrooms is interesting to play. Would be a good one-disc course for working on midrange or putters. The upkeep of the park is very nice.

Cons:

This course feels like it was designed to be played with a regular frisbee. Holes are very short and most are wide open. A true pitch and putt course.

Other Thoughts:

If you really want to get an ace, this would be a good course to play. Otherwise, Iowa has many better courses.
