Great course for casual play or practice

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 9, 2022 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Low traffic, well maintained, variety of different shots. If you wanted to work on something such a distance or shots that require anhyzer or hyzer this course is perfect for that as there will most likely not be people waiting behind you.

Cons:

Only 9 holes. Easy. Many long straight open holes which can get repetitive.

Simple, Good Practice Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 13, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

It's a nice course, pretty close to 6 and with easy parking if you're coming in from outside of the Lakewood area. Makes for a nice after work course, though if you're looking for a quick play through it's pretty easy to get stuck behind other parties as it gets a fair amount of traffic even on a week night.

The course makes the most of the limited trees and elevation on the property, holes 1-3 play around a nice grove of trees with 2 actually making for a somewhat fun tunnel shot.

Good flow, the tee for hole 1 is about 25 feet from the basket for hole 9 and the holes are easy enough to follow especially with a look at the map by hole 1 before starting.

For a course this small, there are actually a couple of holes where you can really fire off the driver (thinking about 4 and 3 to an extent).
Nice concrete tees and the baskets are in fair condition.

Cons:

Some road hazard and disc loss possibilities on this course. Holes 3 and 7 play alongside the road with 3 playing along Alameda which is fairly high traffic any time of day. Hole 4 is bordered on the right by some thick, tall and thorny vegetation that makes for kind of a hellish disc retrieval if you have an off throw.

There's some risk of fairway crossing if someone has a wayward throw, specifically on holes 8, 9 and 4 to an extent. I should say, there's a fair amount of wiggle room on them but I've had a number of peeps having to yell "fore" on these holes.

I've picked up a fair amount of trash on this course, not sure if it's because it's a college course or the lack of trash cans, but bring a bag and help keep the course clean if you're able!

Other Thoughts:

It's a nice-enough course, close to town and perfect if you're already living in the neighborhood. Gets a fair amount of use but you can easily get in a quick round if you play in the morning (weekday or weekend) or before the after work crowd shows up. Great practice in town to get warmed up for some bigger weekend games.

plenty if wide-open driver shots 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 13, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Incredibly convenient location just west of Demver
- Nice signage at tee #1 showing the tee and pin placements
- fantastic use of what is mostly a boring flat landscape, the few trees and slight elevation changes are used very well
- concrete tee pads and permanent baskets
- a few holes where you can crush some distance drives, let if fly baby!

Cons:

- No signage at individual tees
- Only 9 holes
- crushing some big shots or longer fairway shots into wide open zones is fun, but the course does lack variety overall. I think this course is great for building skills but I wouldn't drive out if my way to play here.
- Could use a porta-potty, and the trash was super overflowing, needs some tlc
- not pars listed

Short & Sweet Barebones 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 18, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-baskets are marked with numbers, tees are nice and big - all are in great condition

-plays a quick loop from the parking lot and back

-nice variation in distances, and creative use of the available trees/foliage on most holes

-both times I've played it wasn't crowded at all - maybe because school isn't in session right now?

Cons:

-lack of signage - perhaps it's on the way, but for now all ya got is a tee

-navigation - baskets for 5 & 8 are close enough to each other that when you're playing 8 it can get confusing

-crossing fairways - possible to end up in 8's fairway when playing 7, especially when you're trying to avoid the road that parallels the fairway. The basket for 7 is really close to 8's tee. It's not DIRECTLY in front of it, but could potentially cause issues. An slightly errant shot on 9 can also put you in the middle of another fairway. If there was more traffic at the place it'd start to feel cramped.

-not-so-fun-hazards - as stated before 3 & 7 play along roads, and 5 has an apartment building along the right hand side which can end up in play with an imperfect shot

Other Thoughts:

This course was very well reviewed about a month ago, but I just wanted to add my 2 cents. CCU is 9 holes of flat, bare-bones golf. That said, it's not a bad little course. Though I agree with bobmcnelly's assessment of 7-9, I enjoyed them just because it was nice to balance the shorter holes out, particularly 7 & 8.
When I played the first time I played a local joined us and said the course designer considers 7 & 8 par 4's, so I updated the hole info. I almost think 4 should be par 4 also, but it's highly debatable. Anyone with a stunning RHFH could make it in 3. Would I play it again? If in the area, absolutely - it's a nice warm-up or cool-down for nearby Fehringer Ranch, but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way for it.

Solid 9 holes, but nothing special 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 20, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Great gateway baskets that catch amazingly.
-CONCRETE tee pads (The concrete was just put in a week ago from the time of this review).
-Good tee Leigh and width allowing a large run up.
-There are a good mixture of super short putter must get birdie holes, and absolute bomber hole that are over 500 feet.
-Fairly straight forward and easy to follow, except on holes 4 and 8 where the baskets are near one another and it can be hard to figure out what one you are shooting for.
-Although there is not a ton of trees on the property they incorporated every tree they had.
-The fairways are always moved even in the summer.
-Signs everywhere alerting the civilians to the course.
-On a collage campus so kids can get into the game. #growthesport
-No other courses near this area so its a nice place for the local golfer.
-It is never crowded here.

Cons:

-Lots of flat holes, there is deferentially no major elevation changes.
-There is no tee signs, so you don't know distances, OB (We assumed the campus boundaries and roads) or pin placements.
-There is only one pin for each hole so the course gets kinda bland if you play it multiple times.
-There is a valid risk of throwing onto a very busy road on hole 3, and another risk of throwing onto a less buys road on hole 7.
-There are no bathrooms here (Closest ones are in the park across the road).
-There is a very painful and non forgiving micro-forest to the right on hole 4, that appears to have a active bum camp inside it.
-The basket for 7 is in a very dangerous spot, being 40 feet directly in front of tee 8.
- Baskets 4 and 8 are right next to one another and its confusing as to witch one you are shooting to as the baskets don't have number plates.
-There is no practice baskets, but the first 2 holes are short so you have a chance to warm up before the long holes.

Other Thoughts:

This is a nice course with concrete tees and great triple chained baskets, however there is not a lot of challenge except for the distances, if you don't have a big arm. It seems to be well maintained with the grass never getting out of control. There is a few fun shots but nothing justifying a long commute to get here. If you are in the area stop by and throw a fast round but don't go out of your way to play here.

Pros:

Easy to access, good parking
A few challenging hole placements
Not crowded at all

Cons:

Very open, wind was a challenge
Didn't seem too creative. Several holes just cross an open field

Other Thoughts:

Placed in an open field near a busy street, no water, few obstacles

2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 3, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

- nice new gateway baskets
- quick play easy access 9 hole
- good variety of distances from 200 to 500 feet
- a few fun technical holes

Cons:

- rough gravel tee pads and they are almost invisible
- flat
- no tee signs
- navigation can be a bit confusing
- mostly open boring shots for the most part
- holes 7,8 and 9 seem like the person that designed the course just kind of gave up and said " screw it, just throw across this big open field
- multiple holes you are throwing along a busy street and since this course is geared more towards the rec crowd I could see that being an issue

Other Thoughts:

Fun and simple addition to the metro area, great baskets for putting practice.

Quick and Fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 20, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Gateway Titan baskets catch well
Convenient location
Good use of natural features
Good mix of short and longer holes
Plays quick: 2 rounds with a buddy in an hour 15
Reasonably manicured fairways

Cons:

-Gravel tees are getting rutted and this course is only 1 month old.
-Not particularly challenging
-Not very isolated from highway noise, especially on 3 and 4.
-No bathrooms or practice basket (but you could use hole 9's basket for putting practice provided no one is throwing at it)
-Thicket of trees to the right of 4's fairway has extremely sharp thorny trees. It can be painful to go in there
-The basket for 7 is pretty close to the tee for 8. Could be considered a safety hazard if this course gets busy and people are careless.

Other Thoughts:

Intermediate level course is fun and quick to play. It is owned by the school and may be closed when school is in session. As mentioned, avoid going into the trees on 4 at all costs. Besides the thorns, it's jail.
