Course Designer - Take it with a pinch of salt! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 29, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Beautifully Maintained - Manicured fairways and the rough unlike most English rough is not 3' deep grass nettles and brambles, there are very few places on the course you will struggle to get through. Ground is dry and despite being a very long course, the flat well drained surface is very easy on the feet.

- Really fun course design aimed at about 950 to a par of 58

- Not overly punitive to players below this standard.

- Long in places, but not for the sake of it, at each tee you have to think about the shot you want to throw, where you want to land it and how you will attack the hole. Risk reward decisions throughout.

- The back nine are as good as any in the UK and all are totally different.

- Facilities, Golf buggies available for hire, benches, shelters, bins, toilets provided throughout the course

- Play all day rate, phone ahead to arrange play all day with lunch if in a large group.

- Discs for sale in the pro shop

- Beginners nine hole course also on site for newer players

- Flow is very easy.

Cons:

- Only open for Disc Golf after 1pm CALL AHEAD to make sure it is playable.
- Too long for new players (but beginners 9 hole course on site as well)
- Baskets currently are Black Hole Pro baskets - expected to upgrade to Targetti in near future
- Teepads are hit and miss, there are some good astro teeing areas and some grass areas - another area likley to be upgraded in time.
- Hole 6 is a bit fillery playing down the start of the golf par 5 and not having a lot to work with.

Other Thoughts:

Obviously take this with a pinch of salt, This is a redesigned one loop of the 18 hole course. It is much more manageable to all levels of player and was played to rave reviews at the recent tournament.

The course plays down mature poplar lined sinuous fairways and is a lot tighter than you would expect for a golf course, there are numerous other feature trees around the course to shape lines around and a lot of interest with streams crossing fairways. The strange shaped lake in the middle comes into play on the back nine and is a beautiful feature to play around.

A couple of holes on the front nine can be a bit of a slog to a newer player but the back nine more than makes up for it.

Most of the traps around the course are aimed at better players biting off more than they can handle, someone throwing 50- 70 meters relatively straight should be able to go round quite safely ending 20 or so over par.

There are water carries but none forced and always gradated so the more you take on the more risk, it doesn't necessarily favour longer throwers, it needs control as well as power. There are very few full power shots on the course, most require placement over pure power.

The facilities are great with a clubhouse with bar and restaurant, another nine hole pitch and putt/discgolf and footgolf course, tennis courts and other sporting activities.

owner is very friendly and eager to make Disc Golf work, talk to him and see what he can do to improve your trip.

This will become a must play course when you're in the UK.

rating of 4 at this stage, when baskets have been upgraded and tees sorted this will be upgraded to a 4.5
