It seems like the park is maintained, but the course needs some updating/adjustments

- New baskets as of 2019! DD Patriot baskets. Catch well, look great!
- New concrete teepads as of 2019!
- Redesigned layout which makes the course much more challenging!
- The fairways are mowed regularly
- Easy to navigate

- The long grass OB can be difficult to locate discs. Pro-tip: Keep your throws in the fairways
- I wish more of the woods was utilized. Unfortunately, this is not an option

This course is quickly becoming a favorite in the Mahoning Valley. With the addition of new baskets and concrete teepads on all 18 holes, this course is fun, challenging, and it keeps getting better!

~Clean, expansive park that is very calm and serene

~Course plays through wildlife hiking trails and near other park amenities intermingled with non-disc golfers.

Austintown starts off O.K. then quickly becomes a bit blah, but eventually warms up to a very solid offering. The park itself is expansive, clean, and inviting. Surrounded by lush grasses, and a tree lined border the course opens up to some really wonderful views that calms the soul. Play starts off in the open, then around a tiny pond, through one wooded hole, then the balance is trail style golf surrounded by thick wildlife growth.

Hole 1 is a big open bomber across a tree lined path and is a fairly good starter hole. Holes 2 through 6 soon had me second guessing my decision to travel to play here as they are decent overall, but quirky and unimaginative enough to give me the sense this course was going to devolve into something worse. After one short wooded hole you then begin to play through and around a tall grassy wildlife filled tract of land. This is where the course becomes interesting and enjoyable.

Typically I'm not a fan of mowed fairways through tall vegetation, but this section of the course is done well. The holes vary in layout and distances, and the manicured fairways are more than fair to the average player. I thoroughly enjoyed picking lines to take and making disc stability selections in order to avoid throwing into the thick stuff. Holes 8 through 18 continued to increase my fun factor and I walked away satisfied with my visit to this course.

New posts and detailed hole signs would significantly improve this course. The concrete tees are very nice, and newer baskets are in great shape. There are plenty of next tee navigational aids to help the first time player to easily traverse the course. There is no Wow Factor to this course, but it is a fun throw. Would play again if in the area, but would not travel specifically to come here.

THE BASKETS:
-Sure, you can see them, but they literally spit more than half of your shots right back out.
-The chains aren't slack, so they effectively act like rubber bands to discs.
THE COURSE:
-The property wasn't necessarily utilized as best it could be for a DGC. It's a busy park though, so I don't mind that so much.

Much like in Pokemon, you should actively avoid the tall grass. There are a lot of places on the course where the grass can very easily cost you a disc, and there are oftentimes thorns in the taller grassy areas.

-Austintown Township Park is one of the many terrific parks in the Youngstown area. Austintown treats all of their parks like a first born child, so it's always mowed and debris free.

-Bright yellow on every basket, with a tall hole number plate on top of the baskets.

-Basic tee signs on every hole, with signs directing you to the next tee on a handfull of holes.

-Very scenic park, the course basically plays through and around a wildlife habitat.

-Restrooms between holes #3 and #4.

-Plenty of parking for busier days.

-There's actually SCORECARDS AND MAPS next to the first tee! It seems like many courses have a box for the scorecards, but it's empty.

-A few short, interesting water holes that play close to a pond.

-You could easily spend a day here with the kids. Splash pad, tennis, basketball, and a ton more activities within walking distance from the course.

THE BASKETS

Trying to make a putt on these baskets is the equivalent to throwing a football at Helen Keller. Odds are, it's just going to hit Helen in the face and fall to the ground. Whoever makes these baskets should be banned from making anything related to disc golf. Sorry, Helen.

Another issue at ATP is safety...

There are at least 10 signs near or on the course that say "flying disc area". Obviously there was enough concern that these signs had to be put all over the course.

Several times I had to wait for people walking across fairways with kids or dogs because there are TRAILS going right through the course. In one incident I threw a disc dangerously close to a pedestrian that seemed to pop out of nowhere.

#1 and #2 are unplayable if the pavilion is in use.

One of the basics of course designing is trying to make #18 close to #1. Here, it takes about 5-6 minutes to walk back to the parking lot. Not a huge deal for me, but it's kind of a pain after playing 18 holes.

The designer seemed to squeeze 18 into this space. Several fairways play close to each other. There are definetly some unnecessary filler holes in order to make the course 18 holes.

The wooded area isn't really used at all. I understand that the Township probably said the woods is off limits due to hikers, but it's frustrating to play a 161 foot open hole when there's rolling hills and trees right next to the tee.

Only one bench on the entire course (#4)

I really wanted to put ATP at a 3, but I just couldn't do it. It's a very nice park and a decent course, but for me it's just very average. I wouldn't make a trip to visit, but if you're in the area come check it out!

This course is spread out across the rolling beautiful farm-like landscape of Austintown Township Park. The course offers varying lengths of holes. Very easy to find the next tees. 18 holes! Great map and score cards ready at tee 1. Good signs for first time visitors looking for where to park. Nice mando on hole 10, nice island-like shot on hole 13. Overall, very friendly to disc golfers, and easy for newcomers to the park.

Poor quality baskets with only one row of chains. The baskets don't catch the discs well. So good luck getting a putt to stick from more than 25 feet. The bottom metal part of the basket has gaps large enough for discs to fall right through. Never seen that before. It's pretty annoying to watch your disc go in the basket then fall out the bottom of the basket. Does that even count as in?
Hole 18 ends more than a quarter mile from the parking lot at hole 1, a simple re-design of the last couple holes could correct this.
There's no good way to play only 9 holes, since hole nine is pretty far from the parking lot. No tee pads, but the starting line's are well marked.

For someone accustomed to playing in the woods more, I thought it would be easier to find errant discs easily in the tall grass than in the woods. How wrong I was. I lost 3 discs and only recovered 1. Be particularly cautions on hole 7, if your RHBH throw fades right, it will land in a black hole of brush where it looks like several disc golfers have tirelessly tried to recover discs. I was unsuccessful, so congrats to anyone who finds a red Innova Valkyrie over there with no name and number on the back.
It is unclear from the map or signs what is out of bounds. Some clarity on this would help with scoring. For now though it plays like a course with no out of bounds.
Boardman Park a few miles away has much nicer baskets, but that's about it. This course is a full 18 and is much more beautiful and challenging.
