Pros: The majority of the fairways are fair. The new tee boxes are great. The property is nice.
Given the limited space the front nine is OK and the back nine is good. The back nine is why I will return at some point (17,18 need some work).
There are some really good holes on the back, I wish the entire course resembled the back.
14 good holes are better than 11 meh and 7 good holes.
Cons: The front nine is a pitch and putt. 180-220 with some funky lines make the front nine a birdie fest, but most of the line are not golf lines. The lack of distance is countered with sharp turns at the basket.
MachV baskets - It's nice to have 18 real baskets, but MachVs are awful
PayForPlay - With so many good courses in CT, it is hard to justify paying to play here
Other Thoughts: It is fantastic that there is a course in this part of the state. Building a course with fairways, tee boxes and real baskets is not an easy feat, so I applaud the folks who made this happen. I hate to be critical, but the reality is that the front nine is tragically short. The holes aren't even beginner friendly short. 170-200 and tucking the pin behind trees on a non DG line is not fun for anyone. That being said, well done on the back nine. 10-16 are fun golf holes. Elevation, distance, fairways, decent greens, golf shots...a good 7 hole run. 17 could use some clean up and tree removal and 18 finishes in the opposite direction the parking lot...not an ideal end to a good back nine.

Tale of two layouts

Pros: Nice Baskets - Great signage - Easy to navigate
Trash cans on many holes - Seating on almost every hole (maybe every hole, thought there was one or two without)
Scorecards available
Nice and clean - Cool campground setting
Lots of birdies to grab on front side
Back side layout tests distance and placement

Cons: Gravel/Dirt tee boxes (going to have some divots here)
Stumps and natural debris in fairways
A few borderline unfair lines to basket.
Other Thoughts: The front nine of this course is all short par 3s. These are the holes to grab your birdies and put yourself in a nice position for the back side. The back side plays much longer and the opportunities to score and attack the course are limited.
It would be nice to have more of a blend of these holes through out the course, but I can understand having a short layout like this to accommodate the summer camp. Most of the lines from the tee are clean and fair, and fairway approaches are pretty much the same, just a few instances (4?, 18) where it gets a little funky.
The walk to 10, although it is a little spaced out, is beautiful as you cross the bridge and get a great view of the lake (or pond, it's a big pond).
The $5 fee isn't too bad if you'er going to play more than one round. I definitely enjoyed my round here, and will come back again.

Pros: Clean course. They added trash bins.
The signage is top notch. I have not seen anything as good as this
Short but guarded baskets. You do not find a lot of courses that are short but still challenging
15 minutes from another big course in the area and Putnam for decent food.
Very well thought out and designed
Cons: It's new. Still needs work but you can see that they are doing it.
Tee box for 13 is close to the alley for tee box 15. There are bushes in front of the area but you can see an errant throw can cause a problem.
Right. Ow there are a lot of dead wood/brush piles along the side of the fairways. A good burn day is needed
Other Thoughts: This course went in in about 2 months after planning. It was cleared and in and is very playable. They had Thur first tournament the weekend of this review. It's a fair course that you can easily get birdies but also if you get into the woods you can easily get a bogey or double bogie. The fairways are tight but very well defined. Each shot needs to be planned and if you hit it you can be rewarded very well.
My favorite hole is hole 9. It looks so easy but it's a short downhill with some small trees you need to navigate. It's very easy to under or overshoot it. And the stone wall was recently rebuilt and adds a very nice feature to the hole

 Short and challenging

Pros: This course for being in its infancy is really fun to play. Front 9 is shorter than the back but has nice tight alley's that must be hit. Tee signs and next tee signs are very nicely done. All in all for a brand new course it plays nicely and is a fun round. Will be playing here many times and is easily worth the 25 min drive.
Cons: One concern with a few signs is the sign can be hit on follow through and greatly limits where one can safely tee off from and limits the lines that can be used. Hole 18 could use a little opening up. And there are back to back holes on the back 9 where the greens are a little close to each other and could present a concern when teeing off and someone is putting on the previous hole.
Other Thoughts: Love this property and so happy to see a course being developed. Good luck to the park!
