The only course in the entire country 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 10, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Variety of holes: the combination of tall mature trees, young bamboo and reedy grass patches, and a creek running through the middle of the course all require both shot-shaping and positional throws.

Variety of throws: you will without a doubt end up in a tough spot, this walk in the park is no 'walk in the park' so bring FH, scoobys, rollers, whatever you got.

The baskets: JP had these made from pictures he had seen, so they are small and require excellent putting. We're always talking about making smaller baskets to increase the challenge of putting and he has accomplished it. I pulled off one "birdogey" from within about 20-25 feet of the pin.

Variety of distances: The picture of the map doesn't include distances and they are adjustable due to the nature of the course. The current setup has a few reachable holes including an nice ace run on hole 1 (I hit basket but it splashed out!) and I was lucky to get a 5 for par on hole 5.

Cons:

Tall grass: the country is mostly rain forest but thanks to being part of the university grounds all but two holes are very well maintained. The other two just take a bit of stomping around to find discs. We had 5 first-time players in a group of 7 and didn't lose a single disc.
Again the baskets: if you are easily frustrated by Mach 1's, maybe this course isn't for you

Other Thoughts:

This course is "one of a kind" because playing here with such enthusiastic people makes it unique, as well as actually being one of a kind - as in the only course in the Philippines (so far!).

The holes are definitely challenging, even for a former advanced player with over a decade of experience at 130-some different courses around the US. This course is laid out before you play by JP and his friends, so it can easily be adjusted for different skill levels, and the guys are always looking for input from experienced players.

BRING GIFTS: I packed up 10 discs for them to have and now I think the total number of actual golf discs in the Philippines is 12. They are ridiculously expensive to ship there and real golfing discs just aren't available. The two DX Rocs that they had among the group were given by other visitors.

All in all, it was without a doubt one of the most fun days I have ever had playing disc golf. If you are in Manila, DO NOT miss a chance to do this.
