Course in a Nice City Park
8 Helpful / 0 Not
Pros: -Baskets OK
-Park Upkeep good
-Disc loss next to impossible
-Quick play
-Map/scorecards at first tee in mailbox
Cons: -No elevation
-#3 plays through a jungle gym
-Tees marked by just a post with the hole #
-Grass tees
-Short, all holes sub 254'
Other Thoughts: Chautauqua Park hosts a reasonable city park course in the eastern part of Sac City, IA. The course is mostly opposite the camping area (although a previous reviewer had tent campers to deal with, I did not.) While the river is not too far away, it does not come into play. The road is sort of in play along the first 3 holes, but only grip lock right. There is a jungle gym in the middle of the #3 fairway, but there were no others in the area while I played. There are some old growth trees to work around, but most lines are open. The area is flat, no elevation to speak of. It is an appropriate course for a small town park. The locals can get some play in, beginners will have a decent time, more experienced players can work on their short game or have an ace run or two. The park has some historical buildings on site and the "World's Largest Popcorn Ball" is at the west end of town for viewing. Add some concrete tees and some decent signage to add to the rating. Not a destination, but playable for the locals, a decent course to bag. I might play a quick round if in the area.

Big Trees in the campground

Pros: +Nice mature trees, lots of shade, decent lines through the park. This is definitely a recreational, small town park course.
+Maps at the start. Hand drawn. They are not the most accurate as far as distance goes but still helpful.
+All tees are marked. Natural but still very flat and nice. Good enough for the distance here.
+All baskets are here and in good shape.
+Shouldn't lose a disc here. There is some rough near 4-5 but it's not too bad and easy to avoid.
Cons: -Distances are all very similar.
-Campers can utilize the course for tent camping. Nothing to keep the two activities apart. I tee'd off from a sleeping camper on hole 2.
-0 elevation change.
-Some playground stuff in the way of 3. It's old and doesn't look well used but still.
-Won't entertain more serious players.
-Maps are not accurate for distance. Hole 3 looks like a 400+ foot hole on the map but in reality it's just like most others at 250'ish. Some other confusion about which basket you are throwing at since it is a small park.
Other Thoughts: +This course is nice and has some fun factor. I don't think that other park activities will get in the way too much but it could be an issue.
+This course is fun if you are already in Sac City but it's not really worth traveling for. Good for baggers.
