Lakewood

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 4, 2023 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

18 holes with Prodigy baskets, mostly in fair condition (1-2 in good condition). Course plays around the perimeter of a large county owned/maintained park with a solid mix of forehand/backhand holes, a few shorter holes mixed with longer holes, and a couple of bomb par 3's and a 4. The lake comes into play on 2 holes, and they're the two best holes on the course. Mostly open, but a few holes are tightly wooded.

Cons:

When the only two hills on the course go down to a lake or are pile of dirt, you know it's flat. Then again, it's Florida. The tee pads, rubber, are in bad condition on many holes. Some are to the point where you'd be better off teeing on the grass behind/next to it. No signage other than a few holes, and it is hard to see a distance on almost all of them. (UDisc is fairly accurate). Heavy rain will flood out the wooded holes on the back third of the course, and when in use, the baseball field has a parking lot that will make 17 and 18 dangerous. A little TLC on the tee areas would be a great start.

Other Thoughts:

I remember playing a tournament in the summer of either '17 or '18 where it was 98 degrees, but still thought the place had super potential. Fast forward these last few years, I felt just a bit let down. Again, not a destination course, but there is enough playability between the few ace runs and those great lake holes (7 & 10) that it's worth a play.

Perimeter Walkabout 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 19, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

A decent 18 hole course that goes around the perimeter of the mowed areas of a multi-use park. Smallish rubber tees, some marked with a large flag and also marked with a flat concrete square with hole information. The course starts out with some longish open holes with a few trees to shape around or through. The back nine shortens up and gets slightly more technical. The course features nice new green Prodigy baskets. The course was clean, mowed and seems to be well maintained. Navigation is super easy. Water comes into play on a couple of holes. The course has plenty of covered pavilions to take a shady break or get out of the rain.

Cons:

Not too many cons here, except the rubber tees. Hopefully concrete is coming. The course might seem a little vanilla for some throwers and might be a little long for beginners and seniors. My home courses are wooded and technical, so for me, it's nice to play a more open course once in a while.

Other Thoughts:

This course would make a for fine weekly and has enough enjoyable holes to make a fun round for visiting tourists and traveling course baggers like myself!

Lakewood Regional Park Where You Better Enjoy 450’ Wide Open Holes! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 28, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Cause you're going to be seeing a bunch of them!

This is one big sprawling park. It seems like there is just acres and acres of green field. It's perfect for having soccer tournaments with 80 teams visiting. Not so much for disc golf. The tee pads are rubber and those with a large flag are easy to spot here. # 1 uses a checkered flag. I thought I was getting the checkered flag for winning some race. # 1 is 450' but follows a natural fairway. # 2 was good, just 223', but with a double Mando maybe 75' out. # 3 is short at 187' but open.

Now you start the procession of wide open looks. # 4 is 406' and wide open. # 5 is short (187') and wide open. # 6 is 545' and wide open. 7 & 8 are both wide open. By now I was just hoping for a tree in the way or even a bush. 12, 14 and 18 were all of the popular wide open variety.

# 9 actually offered two routes around this large green thing that was covered with leaves. Yes, a tree! #13 was a nice 333' toss through some more trees. The course is becoming a jungle of sorts. # 16 is a short 205' throw but the basket is hidden behind a big Oak TREE! And I kinda liked 17, 200', but the fairway gets progressively narrower.

This course also displays the hole # and distance on a patio block set next to the pad. The baskets are by Prodigy.

Cons:

The course is long and for me, about half boring!

It's Flat.

It's Windy.

It's Open.

Other Thoughts:

Maybe if could throw 400', I might enjoy these kinds of courses more but I don't really think I would. I much prefer some shot shaping and I rather think that woods or jungle or any kind of vegetation makes for a better course experience.

good course. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 4, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

the course is easy to navigate (since it's in a circular layout)
Holes have a lot of variety distance wise.
wide open course so you can really rip on a disc out there.

Cons:

holes only have one permanent pad placement so someone who doesn't have a big arm will find some of the holes discouraging.
some holes are unplayable if the course gets a moderate amount of rain.
pads are to close to the baskets on some holes, so just keep an eye out when teeing off.
woods are really thick and filled with thorn vines/bushes, the disc goes in you may never get it back.
No shade on the course besides a few pavillions by hole seven so bring plenty of water and sunscreen.

Other Thoughts:

over Lakewood Park is a good course, but it seems like it was rushed to be put in...maybe with a little more time and planning there could have been some better pin/pad placements so you can have 18 holes playable all year round.
